She saves her!

With little time to spare, Julie made up her mind. She lifted the pistol in her hands and did just as Olivia taught her. Took aim, gently squeeze the trigger.... And bang, the Brood Fly gained one big new hole in it's side. Rebecca was able to yank the ovipositor out of her throat, turn around and fire off several shots against the swarm, thinning the number. She coughed loudly, spitting out a wad of the Brood Flies slime, and Rebecca turned to Julie, breaking into a sprint. "C'mon, let's move!"

Julie nodded in response, the two of them rushing to the door, barely able to pull it open and throw it shut behind them, several of the Brood Flies slamming into the door. The pair could hear them buzzing around outside, trying to find a way in. But they gave up quickly, probably turning to pursue Captain Maynard and the others. The two of them found themselves at the top of a set of stairs, and below they could see a hallway. Both women breathed a heavy sigh of relief at narrowly avoiding a grisly fate. Rebecca turned to Julie, blushing a little. "T-thanks... For saving me out there, I appreciate it..." She seemed a bit awkward at saying thanks, and Julie thought that was a little endearing.

"No problem Rebecca, we are a team now after all!" Julie felt excited, she had done it! Proven she was able to help! A part of her was really amazed she made that shot, it was no easy feat.

Rebecca shook her head, her blush fading and she resumed that over confident smirk of hers. "Well don't get too full of yourself rookie, we are still in the shit. Let's search this building for a way out." She didn't really wait for Julie to respond, turning around and going down the stairs behind them.

The building was another five story apartment, with most of the doors she could see being boarded up. When they got to the third floor, the stairways were blocked by numerous desks, shelves, and other furniture effectively plugging the whole way. The two of them both groaned in frustration. Rebecca pointed out a map on the wall, showing the whole of the third floor. The building curved like an L with her at the short end, and at the long end would be another set of stairs. "Well, we just gotta hope the other stairs are not fucked."

"Yeah... Otherwise we will have to go back to the roof..."

"Nah, things will be fine, nothing can fuck with the two of us! Well mostly me..." Rebecca poked at Julie, then held her rifle tightly in her hands. "I'll take point, follow me." Julie nodded, and the two of them started going down the hallway. Once they reached the corner of the hall Rebecca motioned for Julie to stop, and peeked around the corner. This hallway was much longer than the other, and there were a lot more apartment doors. All of the lights down this way were dead except for the ones at the end, and Rebecca could see the stairs were not blocked off. From where she was Rebecca could see that all but a few of the apartment doors were boarded up, with one door being slightly ajar. Other than that... It appeared the way was clear, just a straight walk to the stairs. But Rebecca narrowed her eyes, something felt off... Her training was telling her there was danger ahead.

She turned to Julie and whispered, "Something isn't right, stick close and keep your eyes open." Julies eyes went wide, a trickle of fear coming up... But Rebecca's determined eyes calmed her down, and she nodded confidently. The two of them slowly crept around the corner and down the hall...
