Chapter 10 by ShadeWriter ShadeWriter

"Got someone in Mind?"

A certain Fence

"You like money so much little Reya?" Harley asked, to which the Head imp simply nodded. A slow and deliberate one as if to say 'what of it'? The clown kept her grin. "Well, I have an idea of a new girl for you. I just need a few left over things."

Harley got up and went over to her bed, shoving the bedframe out of the way and pulling up a piece of scrap metal covering the floor. Inside was a small area dug out that held a small metal box. Harley fished out a key from between the underside of her breasts, using it to open the box and revealed three glass bottles of dark green liquid. Just below them was another trio of bottles, only this time containing pink fluid.

"I just need a little first before we get our new recruit." The clown said letting out a laugh that went on for a good while.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING

"Ah.... fuck. Coming."

The roll of plastic wheels on metal was heard, followed by a few clacks of a keyboard and click of a mouse. An image pulled up on the screen of a familiar clown. A long groan was heard as a few more commands were punched into the large bank of machines and a speaker was turned on. "Quinn, what do you want?" a voice rang out.

"Oh come on now! Why the long face?!? ... at least I thing you got a long face. You're not upset at me are you?" The clown asked, moving closer to the camera. A few more clicks at the keyboard and then the clown's face started to change as she heard mechnical noise around her. "Okay okay sheeze uptight arse...," The noises continued. "I GOT THE BOOKS CALL THE SECURITY OFF ALREADY!!!"

The person on the other end leaned down to her mic and asked rather firmly, "Proof?".

Harley seemed to dig out something from her backpack and pulled out a rather large armored suitcase. The kind you use for transporting valuable if brittle goods. She cracked it open and there were books inside. A few camera shots of the titles and cross referencing with her database showed that the clown had gotten the requested books. "Good enough." The figure thought.

"Alright. Buzzing you in. Remember, no funny business." The voice said.

Harley nodded and stepped back as the door in front of her started to do it's unlocking process as the figure got up from her computer bank giving a small stretch. This was going to be messy, she could feel it.

Allison Harvey, no relation to THAT Harvey, started to make her way down to her receiving room. As a fence, she was quite used to people trying to stiff her or threatening her. They all thought that face to face the scrawny woman would just cower under the bigger more cut throat criminals. And she would..., if someone like the Joker or Black Mask had shown up. But several sheets of thick armored plexiglass and a couple remote turrets kinda made their cocky grins vanish, it was the weirdest thing. Having family that works in the security industry helps get the nicest stuff.

When Harley had tracked the fence down she'd almost lost it in a panic. Thus far Allison, or Glitch as she went by, hadn't done enough to attract any of the bigger fish. Simply helped out move goods from a couple smash and grabs. Nothing fancy but she was slowly getting contracts, only for the Clown Princess herself to show up. Seems being a new player, Harley thought Glitch would be far more willing to play ball. She of course but more out of fear than anything.

Harely had suggested stealing books after some stupid show where people didn't know the real value of things had given her the idea and Glitch had agreed. A simple run to hopefully build a little trust..., AND NOT bring Batman's attention to them. Or the Joker himself, blargh.

"God she's gonna get me killed." the short haired brunette muttered as she pushed her glasses up as she waited for a door to open.

Once inside she was in the receiving room, a large room of plexiglass and steel divided up into two smaller rooms on either side and a larger middle section with a few tables made of the same thick plastic material. Four turrets whirled to life and locked onto the person on the other side of the room, which was Ms Quinn herself. "Miss.. Mrs... Misses? Don't care." Glitch thought as she typed at a keyboard and leaned close to a mic.

"Evening Quinn. I see you have my books. Proceed to the table and put them down as requested." She spoke. Harley gave a small salute and waited for the door to open before comically marching through.

Glitch watched carefully as she judged her chances if this went south. Harley wasn't super human but years of running with the Joker, fighting Batman and being around all those chemicals probably gave her some kind of edge. But she was certain even the clown girl couldn't break though the glass fast enough before the turrets shredded her and even if they didn't, it should last long enough for her to get to the panic room. Hopefully.

Her fear was maybe misplaced as Harley simply took out a few books out of the suitcase and put them onto a small table in the middle of the room before backing away to her own end. Still, Glitch didn't like the smile the clown had. The kind that said 'Oh yes I am a good girl' spoke of some trick. Glitch wasn't a fool though. Rather than going in herself, she tapped out a few commands and a small robot appeared from the wall. It slowly rolled over to the books extending a clawed hand to grip them. Once it was holding the book, it flipped downward and gave a few shakes. trying to see if anything came loose.

The joy-buzzer was damning.

"I wonder what the plan was here Harley?" Glitch spoke into the mic as the little robot brought the books over to her side. "I don't have the money for you yet. What, you'd take all my lists or something? I didn't expect you to have the head for this kinda stuff, nor the contracts to sell any of the equipment I have here."

"Yeah yeah, well, can't blame a gal for trying. No harm no foul." Harley said, keeping that grin on her face.

"I can actually. I'll deduct some of your payment. Think of it as... fright pay." Glitch muttered as she took the books offered by the little robot.

"Fright? What do I look like I scare birds for a living? Nah nah nah, I put a smile on people's faces." Harley quipped as she leaned against the plexi wall, "Ain't that right girls?"

"RIGHT!"

Glitch was puzzled by what Harley meant. She was confused by what that light was. And she was put off by the fact the book she was holding suddenly had three strange female being popped out of it. More than anything, she was scared of the green gas bomb one of them held that slammed against her face. Glitch lost it, falling to the ground in a snickering pile as it grew to a hearty laugh.

Kat didn't waste any time as she tied up the fence while her fellows got to work. It took Sammi two heavy punches to break the door down back to the main section only for the turrets to lock onto her. Before they could start firing, a whip of smoke wrapped around each of them and crushed them, dragging the heaps down to the ground to make sure. This let Sammi freely break down the other door letting Harley walk in.

Glitch was leaned against the wall, fighting off the laughs and giggles that kept welling up inside her. She tried to give as mean a glare as she could towards the clown as she could but the tears made that a moot point. Harley had a big grin on her face as those small figures around her huddled close.

"Oh don't be upset. It's just a new deal, that I'm sure you're gonna love." the clown said with the biggest shit eating grin Glitch had seen.

What's next?
