The Mongol Empire (1206-1294)

You step into your machine, and with a whoosh and a whir you materialize in Mongolia, circa 1244. You are besides what looks like a temple, and you chose the location specifically - Karakorum, the capital of the Mongol Empire.

Despite having only been founded a few years earlier, the city is incredibly alive. Traders and diplomats from all across Eurasia, as well as native Mongols and Chinese brought in to populate and administrate the grand empire.

Walking along a dirt road you spot a group of carts with people hopping off them, a few tying up their horses. As you stare, a girl catches your eye. She seems to squint at you for a while, before turning to an older man she was riding with (you assume her father). She says something you can't make out due to ambient noise, but then they both turn and look at you suspiciously.

You continue down the road, not sure what to make of the encounter. You are clearly a foreigner (more so than they realise), but that isn't anything special here. You decide not to dwell on it too much.
