Lie

The cop was speechless.

Thankfully, Jane, being a quick thinker, already had a retort.

"Please, officer, just leave us be. We f-fight too much, we're already seeing a therapist."

The woman glared at her, but quickly dropped it, realizing how this is the best way to avoid a confrontation.

"M-maam?" The officer said, looking to the stranger attached to Jane.

"Please?" She said, simply. "Just leave us alone."

The officer nodded, and left.

Jane looked, then, to her new partner; how they were connected.

"What the fuck is going on?" The woman whispered into Jane's ear.

"I don't know... I don't know. I-I don't-..."

Jane looked at her remaining left hand, seeing herself shivering with uncertainty. What had just happened? How are they going to fix this?

"S-so." She heard.
Jane looked to the woman.

"So. What's... your name?" She asked, quietly.

"...Jane."

"I'm Sophia."

Jane smiled lightly for only a split second, letting her gaze shift to the shoulder she now shared with the stranger - Sophia. She brought a curious hand to it, to the bones that now locked them together. Their jackets had fused together, combining into something new - from two things, one had been created.

She could feel their breaths, now tied together. Their bloodstreams had probably been fused as well.

Was this safe?

Jane didn't know the answer.

She didn't need them right now, anyways, she thought, as she leaned back on the seat and closed her eyes.

"Jane."

"Jane, wake up."

Jane woke up to Sophia rocking her back and forth.

"What?"

"We're close."

"Close to what?"

"My place."

"Your place?" She asked.

"We didn't really come to an agreement, and you just kinda... fell asleep. I don't know where you live, so I thought I'd just wake you up when we got to my place."

"Oh. T-thanks."

Soon enough, the bus came to a stop. They both rose, quickly realizing, through trial, error, and almost falling back down, that they both controlled their shared, center leg.

"Let's go." Jane said, pulling Sophia from the seat.

They walked off the bus, barely keeping themselves upright, and stood in the bus stop.

"Just a quick walk from here, Jane."

"Sure."

The wind was cold, and the snow was chilling, but the walk was nothing to Jane - not right now. The weight of their fusion was simply too much right now.

Eventually, they came to a building. A tall building, with many floors.

Sophia fished a key from the pants they now shared.

"There's a lot more in here... two phones?"

Jane shrugged. Sophia shrugged back, unlocking the front door and pulling them inside.

One elevator ride and a short walk later, they arrived at Sophia's apartment. Not spacious by any means, but it was clean, tidy, and at least looked nice.

"You keep a good apartment." Jane said.

Sophia grinned. "Thank you!"

"So..."

"So?"

"What next?"

"What next?"
