With that settled, Julie sat down with the team as Captain Maynard explained the basics of their mission, as well as some context. It turns out that the Pseudosects were artificially created creatures, designed and bred in a lab somewhere hidden under the city. A company called Maxwell Pharmaceuticals discovered an alien substance in a meteorite crater. Samples of the substance was taken to the lab and studied, where the scientists made an amazing discovery. Dubbing these substance Evolex, it allowed for the complete manipulation of DNA. The possibilities seemed for it seemed endless such as a cure for all diseases, enhancement to the human body, creation of super crops and so much more. One of the most interesting aspect was the scientists could create entirely new organisms that defied conventional understanding of biology.

After months of study, an accident occurred and all of the lead scientists died, leaving only Dr. Richard Shaw as the sole survivor. As the most senior researcher in the company, he took command of the project and began bringing in scientists of his own choosing. The progress of the project increased tenfold after this, with many new technologies utilizing Evolex ready to change the world. But after several more months passed, a disoriented scientist stumbled to the company headquarters. There she told the company of the horrors occurring within the lab. Dr. Shaw had gotten exposed to a vast amount of Evolex and was forever changed. As he worked more with Evolex he became more deranged. He began to feed false reports to the companies HQ to mask his work. Within the lab he had been breeding all manner of strange creatures, **** test subjects to fuel his mad designs. Any of the scientists who spoke out against him were used as test subjects, with only his inner circle spared. It seemed he had some sort of plan to create a new world order based on his fantasies.

Shortly after giving her report, the woman collapsed with her belly suddenly swelling as if she were heavily pregnant. She birthed several Pseudosects in the HQ and the entire area had to be sterilized. The heads of the company immediately ordered their security teams to storm the lab and eliminate Dr. Shaw, secure the samples, and wipe out all of his abominations. No one knew what happened to the **** team, it was assumed they failed as the next day the Pseudosects emerged and took over the city. Captain Maynard and her team were tasked with infiltrating the lab and securing samples of Evolex so the company could engineer a counter-measure.

They had identified a few possible entrances and the members of her group were split into 4 teams to search for one each, hoping a smaller group would have better chances of stealthily entering. Their entrance was a tunnel located in the subway system, But with their team numbers whittled down by Pseudosect attacks, they would be unable to inveterate the lab. But if they could contact team 2 lead by Captain Jun and get their help, they would stand a better chance.

With the explanations in order, Captain Maynard had Olivia give her a pistol, and teach her how to use it. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Alexis would secure supplies and then figure out a path to the subway, and the Captain would attempt to contact Captain Jun. Olivia was a good teacher, showing Julie how to properly fire the gun, reload it, and safe handling of the weapon. Julie did her best to memorize what she was taught, wanting to be a help to the Captain and the rest of the team. It was scary to hold a gun, but she now felt a bit more confident to have a weapon and people to depend on.
