Work

Plenty of work, indeed. For the next couple weeks, you hardly stop, setting everything in motion for your plans. As you expected, there’s a few people with connections in Thalberg, and you quickly get them together and send them to find a location. The group is eager to help, and assures you they’ll find you a good place.

Despite their eagerness, you know it will be at least a couple weeks before anything comes of that, so you set to work around town, with various projects. With Amara’s help, you’re able to quickly build up some strong, stone buildings, and you move the makeshift smithing setup into one, and get Sarah started working. Several people with smithing experience join her, and although none have her ability to enchant metal as it’s shaped, they’re all capable in their own right. Alex joins them, albeit grudgingly, and uses her mastery of fire to aid their efforts.

A second building becomes a hospital, and several healers immediately set to work within. Naturally, Cassie joins them, eager to learn from more experienced healers. In particular, those without magical healing. More surprising is that Melora also spends a lot of time here. She explains that her power as a seer can be helpful in detecting diseases and infections before they get out of hand. She’s also is eager to learn more practical skills, along with her combat training.

The final, and largest building is a combination of barracks and training area. You eventually want to have a standing army, and this is a good start. Victor spends a lot of time here, training up new fighters. When she isn’t being your loyal shadow, Ferra joins him. The golem girl is as much of an icon as you are at this point, with tales of her combat prowess spreading quickly. This is enhanced the very first day she shows up, when one of the new trainees takes exception to the idea that this cute little redhead is some kind of master warrior. He challenges Ferra. He gets the dubious honor of being the first to visit the hospital, with a slight concussion and some bruised ribs. Ferra didn’t even bother to switch to her combat form.

The final project is a bit more extensive. You know that your isolation here won’t protect the town forever, so you set people to work on fortifications. A wall starts to take shape, and with Amara’s blessing, you have a swathe of trees cut down, so that the town is no longer butted up against the forest. The port is fortified as well, enclosed in it’s own wall, and with ballista and catapults ready to defend.

All in all, you would say that there’s a good start. All of your plans are coming along nicely.
