How does Kim answer
Sing in front of the whole restaurant
Kim takes a deep breath
“I-I would sing . . . In Front of the whole restaurant if I had too”
Sam knows her well enough to know the stage fright would kill her. He just laughs and stands up and holds out his hand
“Then I’ll have to put you on Birthday duty then. I’m going to hire you Mrs. Miller, I’ll order your uniform and you can start as early as next week if you’d like”
Kim stands shaking it and smiling ear to ear
“That would be amazing! Thank you so much!”
He takes her hand gripping it firmly standing almost a foot and a half taller than her. Kims not sure if it's the relief of finishing her job search or if it's from the boy holding on to her hand but she feels butterflies in her stomach feeling her face happily flush red.
A Month Later
The job isn't the best and she wishes it paid a bit better, but it was easy and she enjoyed everyone she works with. Most of her co-workers are younger than her, upcoming sophomores and juniors from a school not far from her and Sam’s. Only one other girl works with Kim, Delila, they trade off the cashier spot with Delila preferring mornings. quickly becoming good friends she made it easier to go to work on the days where it felt the hardest. There were a few boys in the back end cooking up the food, cleaning tables and dishes. One of them asked Kim out at the end of one of her shifts, she felt bad for turning him down but Delila told her not too.
“The boy asks out anything with breasts and two legs”
At first Kim would come to work in the uniform Sam ordered her but after a night out after a long shift she quickly learned from a female worker to change in the back storeroom so that the pair could go out on Fridays to celebrate their newly obtained paychecks.
