Chapter 19 by MeedrowH MeedrowH

What's next?

They get their rewards

Youngwoo went into the building, and Hilda quickly followed. It was quite obviously this building: despite the village being in a shabby condition this building was perfectly clean and well kept. In fact, it kind of looked like it was freshly built.

Surprisingly, the front door was opened, and there was some kind of a man awaiting for their arrival. Upon closer inspection, Youngwoo recognized the man to be a servant. Outfitted in a tuxedo and wide, white shirt, the man looked frail, but was visibly vivid as he said:

"Oh, brave adventurers! Please come in!" He waved his hand in an inviting motion, urging them to go inside.

Heeding his words, they entered, and suddenly came to a halt when they noticed how large the first room was. It must've been some kind of middle grounds between a corridor and a common room, as there could be seen a long shelf for boots, but very elegant paintings were adorning the walls, and somewhere in the middle, a table with multiple chairs was present.

In the room, there were already 5 people. Not wanting to disrupt the silence in the room, both Youngwoo and Hilda decided to stand quietly by. Every person in here seemed to have accomplished a lot of quests. Indeed, all of them seemed tired by what they've been doing.

A tall man was holding a scythe firmly, not letting it tilt sideways from its upright position. His brown eyes were clearly tired from the labor in the fields, and his 30 year old body seemed to be giving in already. Was he sick, perhaps? Or just very tired? Well, it was probably latter, seeing how his outfit was still full of wheat straws.

Next was a much smaller girl, maybe 15. She didn't seem to have had much physical labor on her hands, unlike the man before, but her hands had some signs of calluses, and they overall looked like they were wet for far too long. Had she been washing dishes in the inn as her quests? It was probable, but Youngwoo decided not to even ponder.

Third was a short, but muscular man. He had some blunt and sharp weapons fixed to his side, and on his back was a backpack. Was he a hunter? Or did he take care of bandits all around Issar? Seeing how neither Youngwoo nor Hilda got into any trouble after day 1, it seemed that the latter option was likely.

Next they saw a man who was wearing a tight fighting outfit. Two small swords were attached to his waist, and glasses were fixed on his nose. Short, brown hair was stiff and just barely budged when he turned his head, looking at the two of them with his blue eyes.

Lastly, there was a fourth man, who also was difficult to pinpoint what he exactly did. But before Youngwoo had any time to take a look, another few people came in, and after the servant from outside came in, a voice was heard from within the house:

"Has everyone gathered?" The voice belonged to a young man who stormed into the room. Just barely able to stop his advance, he came forward to the gathered people somewhat clumsily. He had a cheerful expression on his face.

He was probably the shortest person in the room, and it was likely that he was about 16. He fixed his short, disheveled blonde hair and looked over everyone with his green eyes. His small mouth was curved in a childish smile, and on his wrists there were golden and silver bracelets. Indeed, he was a noble child. His small hands clapped when he said:

"Welcome, welcome, brave adventurers! I'm Savi Mahoney, newfound owner of this estate! Appointed this month, too!" He laughed cheerfully and bowed to everyone. "Thanks to your efforts, this place has gained a second breath! And thanks to our system of tracking your achievements, you'll be rewarded as promised!" He kept on talking loudly despite all the people being rather close to him. "Now, please step forward! We have your reward prepared according to what your rank displays!"

Visibly startled, Hunters started looking one at another, unsure how to react to Savi's statement. One man stepped out, intent on getting his reward. It was the Hunter who had multitude of weapons by his side. Savi looked at him, exhilarated, and asked:

"Such a posture, what a collection of tools! Can I ask for your card, adventurer?"

Without saying a word, the man pulled out a small card, same as Youngwoo and Hilda received, and passed it to the boy.

"My, 21 times you had helped this village? Really, you're an outstanding man, adventurer. Worthy of the third place! May I ask your name?"

"...do I have to tell you?"

"Oh, it's very advised! Your achievements are going to be written down in our history, after all. Shouldn't your name be there as well?"

"..."

"Well, if you want us to know us under an alias, that is fine, too. Many people enjoy a mist of mystery, don't they?" Savi asked with a cheer in his voice.

"I'm Hunter." The man said slowly.

"Ah, Hunter. Such a fitting name, no? And a fitting reward, as well." Savi snapped his fingers, and a servant came into the room, holding a small pillow with a bow on it. As the man came to a halt, the blonde took hold of the weapon. "This bow is made of elvenwood and outfitted with silk of mountain spiders. It's extremely flexible and its bowstring will not snap easily. May it be of great use to you, Hunter." He offered it to him.

"..." The man didn't reply, but accepted the bow with visible gratitude. After that, he left the room.

"Alright then, next one please!"

The young girl came forward. She handed her card without saying a word.

"My, such beautiful, young hands, and so many calluses... You have worked hard. Indeed, 18 quests for someone so young, you deserve higher than 6th place." Savi bowed his head. "What is your name?"

"...Melissa."

"Please, accept this as your reward." Savi snapped his fingers again.

...

One after another, Hunters came, gave their names quietly and received their rewards. Finally, Youngwoo and Hilda stepped forward.

"Hmm? Please come one at a time, dear adventurers. I can only give reward to one rank at a time, I'm afraid."

"That's the problem." Said Youngwoo. "We both have 1st rank."

"What?" Savi looked at him weirdly. "Please, give me your cards, adventurers." And as he read the information, his eyes widened." 81 quests? My... my my my, this will not do. Not at all. I'm afraid I only have one reward for you, adventurers. Hmm, please give me a minute... I'll figure something out."

Hilda looked at Youngwoo, a little surprised. He reciprocated the look; indeed, this situation was weird. This person was likely barely 16, and he was supposed to rule the estate? But then again, wasn't Michell Collen only 14 now? Their short pondering was halted when Savi suddenly shouted:

"I know!" He almost jumped with excitement. Without hesitation, he took off a silver bracelet he wore on his wrist. It had a few small gemstones on it. "Adventurer." He turned to Hilda. "On my behalf, please accept this humble reward. I know it's not an amazing item, but I'm afraid I don't have anything worthy I can give to you now." He bowed deeply, and from his tone of voice, he really meant that he was sorry.

Visibly startled, Hilda looked at Youngwoo. He shrugged, telling her clearly 'you make a choice'. She nodded and said:

"It's a generous reward. Thank you."

"Ah, I almost forgot. What should our descendants remember you as, adventurer?"

"Dragon Witch." She replied.

"And you?" He turned to Youngwoo.

"..." Asian man turned to Hilda, who shrugged with a tiny smile on her face. "I'm Lee Youngwoo."

"I see. Then, allow me to give you your reward as well." Savi snapped his fingers for the final time, and a servant came, holding a magic scepter on a pillow. "This magic scepter was created over a hundred years ago by a dwarven craftsman who wanted to rival elves. I know it's not very fitting for a swordsman, but I'm sure you'll recognize its value."

"...Thank you." Said Youngwoo, and after that, he and Hilda left the building. As they stepped into the village, he checked the information the Tower would provide him about the scepter.

[Old Scepter of Overflowing Energy

Rating: D

When held, decreases cooldown of all skills by 50%.
However, all magic power is decreased by 33%, and overflowing aura will poison your blood after some time of holding this item.

Created by an old dwarf craftsman who wanted his friend's magic to rival that of elves.]

"..." He looked at Hilda. "You want to swap?"

"Yes." She seemed to have been waiting for him to propose that.

Without hesitation, she handed over the bracelet while receiving the scepter. Youngwoo checked the information on the bracelet.

[Bracelet of Young Warrior

Rating: D

When worn, increases speed of your attacks by 15%.
However, damage of your strikes is decreased by 10% and you have a chance to miss your attacks.

Once belonging to a young warrior aspiring to be a legend some day, it bears its quick, yet somewhat weak and clumsy hands.]

"..." To be honest, bracelet wasn't much better. It kind of did fit Youngwoo and Pagma's sword dances, even with the decreased damage. However, the bracelet only increased speed of his attacks, not movement speed, so it didn't change much for him (since sword dances require footwork), and additionally a chance to miss could completely break fusion dances. "I think I'll sell mine."

"Mine will do as a training weapon." Replied Hilda. "Not having to wait for magic to recharge will prove to be great. But in a fight, no. If I'd have to wait or have no way of using a skill, it'd be a great poison."

"I see. Then, shall we move to 12th floor?"

"We can check it out, but I'm not sure if I can really stay for much longer. I need to check on Ieva."

"Then I think we should get a break."

"Yes, a day of break would be nice. Then we can resume."

A break day?
