Demonworld CH2: The 3-month Challenge

As the farmer-led me back to his home, I saw fields full of stumps, boulders half embedded into the ground, and slabs of bedrock. Clearly, not all of the farmer’s land was viable. Even with a whole field of those Venus flytraps, I couldn’t imagine he was very successful. More than 70% of his farm was unusable.

I took some pictures of it because why not but only gained 1 SP (Stylish Points) from it. Clearly, landscapes of stumps and mud-covered rocks weren’t good enough. In the distance, I saw a muddy lake dug up to irrigate the crops further afield, but most of it had to be dug through hills. It would have been more efficient to dig downhill, but it was poor farmland. And there were hundreds of meters of bedrock to get through.

“Son, I guess you noticed why I’m working in these beat-up overalls instead of a set of sturdy new dyed blue. When I earned the farm after my service in the war, I didn’t know what kind of land they were giving me. It was big; all of them were, and I thought my blood was worth something. Well, my knees are shot from charging up hills. I’m not as young as I once was. Ripping one of those stumps out of the ground could take me all day, and if you don’t yank them all out at once, the roots grow back.” Alroth said.

“I can’t imagine getting those rocks out are any easier,” I said.

“No, the ground is wet, and they're suctioned in. It could take days to dig them out. I’m not talented in the unholy arts like my daughter. She unfortunately only has an affinity with water and no mortal souls to burn up to spread her affinities.” Alroth said.

Clear out all stumps

Reward: 3 Red Pill: Red pills increase physical strength and blood flow. Take enough, and your strength could rival the incredible Hulk.

Clear out all boulders

Reward: 3 Blue Pill: Blue pills increase speed and lung capacity. Take enough, and your speed could rival the Flash.

Dig irrigation system through bedrock

Reward: 1 Green Pill: Green pills increase cellular regeneration and life span. Take enough, and your body will heal like Majin Buu.

I put a smile on my face while dying on the inside. Farming was back-breaking work, which could be the worst part of it all. Clearing the land to start the farm by hand would be a nightmare, and the system gave me 3 months to do it. Unfortunately, that meant my superhuman strength and speed wouldn’t help much.

“Well, since you’re helping me let me return the favor. I may not look it, but I’m strong. Who knows, maybe I have an earth or fire affinity? Fire would at least let me take care of those stumps.” I said.

The jackass demon turned towards me and showed off his large square teeth. “That would be a mighty fine thing for you to do. I’ll show you to a stump I’ve been working on in the morning, and you can get to work after breakfast. I hope you like greens because that’s all we have. Oh, and don’t tell my daughter your human. She’s never seen one, and I don’t want her to try and take your soul. Unfortunately, we only have two beds, so you will have to share hers or sleep outside.” Alroth said.

As we approached the farmhouse, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of girl the kind demon farmer’s daughter would be. Also, was she also a jack or, in her case, a jenny.
