Chapter 65 by AnQnomous AnQnomous

Walk an upward road; for fall back down?

Option C; Fall upwards.

"So, how did you get capture by those sirens?"

"It's a long story; lots of cheese was involved..."

"Oh now you HAVE to tell us."

Ashes and Scott seem to have gotten friendlier over the half hour of walking up the roads of bounty. We were stopped at a bench just outside of a store that sold 'candy', which I'm told is a form of food. Zana was the one to suggest we get some of this 'candy', and I saw it as the perfect excuse to get off of the inclined roads, and onto the flattened foundations that rested beneath the buildings of Bounty. The only one that caught my eye was a very shiny red 'rock candy' stick, which i was currently trying to find out if I would eat it if we bought some... or would I add it to my horde... so shiny.

Walking up an inclined road for thirty minutes straight made me quite jealous of our Sorcerer; riding her way up on her Boomstick... wait... I have wings. Gods damn it!

Scott was continuing his story. "So, I had paid this food convoy to Riptide for passage; much like you lot had with that Thrusk woman. They were carrying perishable goods, like fruits, grain, and cheese. I had a room next to the cheese storage; awful, smelled like sweaty socks... anyway, the ship is hit by a siren's song, and next thing I know, I'm being carried off to the siren's throne room."

It was strange seeing the normally sorrowful looking Scott speak so fondly of his ****...

His story proceeds. "Well; just my luck, it was a Coven of Khalthosh that had caught me. They detected my curse, and began forcing me to assist them in catching mates. If I refused, they would simply kill me; trying again the next loop. It was awful, to be frank."

Ah, there's that depressing tone I know.

"Well, at least Monster got you out of there." Says Ashes; patting the torn tailor on the back.

"Oh yes; after multiple timelines of killing me..." Groans Scott.

"Sorry about that." Is the only reply I can think of.

Finally, Zana, Cilla, and Gabriella come out of the store with some of the goodies. I'm handed the rock candy, while the others are handed a deluge of different desserts. The one that catches my eye most is what Priscilla got for herself; a 'lollipop' shaped and colored like a fish.

Just before she pops it into her mouth; she says. "It looks like another twenty minutes walk up to the top; then we can find a stagecoach too the next town over."

A shame; I never got to visit that library Thrusk suggested...

Suddenly, a shout is heard from the candy store. "Stop! Thief!"

A figure flashes by us out the open door; bounding onto the roof of the building it had just fled from, a long furry tail following behind them.

A portly gnome man with a mustache waddles out after the thief; yelling in a squeaky voice. "Guards! Thief on the roof!"

I turn to the others; feeling pressured by the tiny man's "Should we... help?"

Cilla; trying to be reasonable, says. "The guards will deal with it; not our problem."

Ashes on the other hand has already drawn her sword. "Necrotic Shift!"

The clawed hand at the tip of her blade opens, and the spine-blade compacts tightly; suddenly firing off like a firearm, and latching the claw into the side of a building, the spine-blade acting like a spring. The Artisan is suddenly taken off her feet, and launched onto the roof by the **** of her blade retracting.

"She's always wanted to do that." Says Zana, pulling her Boomstick from her hat, and getting onto it like a horse. "I'm coming, Ashie!"

As Zana flies off after Ashes; Cilla is face deep in her palms; grumbling. "Dolts... I'm surrounded by dolts."

Gabriella, it would seem, is one of those dolts; saying an incantation as she slams her stave into the ground.

"Ariel."

"Drawn from your well."

"This power that harms."

"Flexing charms."

"Ariel's Arms."

Expecting a sword; maybe a shield to suddenly pop into existance; I'm surprised when actual set of enormous, ephemeral, golden arms emerge from the Emissary's back with a flash of similarly colored light, and white feathers. The shape of the arms were extremely effeminate, thin, and smooth. Yet their sheer size was that of a fully grown man. Gabbie then used these shining limbs to launch herself onto the roof; cracking the ground where she once stood.

"I mean, at this point... they have it covered, right?" Says Scott; checking his watch impatiently.

"No, at this point, they're likely to get themselves hurt!" Yells an angered Red Hood as her uncovered eye shifts to a familiar red; all while she pulls her gloves from her clawed hands.

Like a feral beast; Cilla leaps onto the same wall Ashes had grappled onto, but using her own claws to carve into the stone, and swiftly ascend to the roof.

Scott looks to me; I look to Scott.

"Gods damn it." We say in unison.

I pull off my cloak and pack; allowing my wings to unfurl from my back. With a few experimental beats, I've managed to lift myself off the ground, and make my way onto the roof. Scott, on the otherhand, creates a double, which then launches himself onto the roof.

"How... how are you that strong?" I ask, looking about for where the others went

"Barbarian; remember. Three times stronger than you average man?" He answers.

"I thought that's when you're angry."

"Common misconception; any strong emotion will do... still quite depressed about having a curse of eternal suffering."

"...Understandable."

I spot the others; heading upwards after thief.

And so...

The chase begins.
