The chamberlain enters
Just as Ciri was about to reach for some clothes, the chamberlain Mererid entered the room. “We must proceed with the ceremony immediately. Come now, no time to waste. We must address the people and tell them what happened. We must tell them that you are to be empress,” he said.
Before Ciri could protest, the chamberlain grabbed her arm and pulled her along. “Hey, wait. Don’t I need clothes!”
“Actually it’s an old tradition to present the future ruler of Nilfgaard in their natural form,” Mererid said. “So your attire is perfect. Especially for someone who was believed to be dead just a few weeks ago.”
“Oh…” Ciri said. “About that…”
“No time to talk,” Mererid said. “We’re just glad we were able to find a successor in time. We’ll disguise the lies that were told at another time. Now let us address the people.”
Ciri found herself shoved outside onto a balcony where there was a large crowd of people gathered beneath. She blushed. “Can’t I at least have something to wear?”
“No,” Mererid said. “Now address the people.”
