Does Authur work hard and recover?

Rapid Recovery of a sort

Aurthur throws his focus back into recovery from the accident and getting himself out of this hospital. Over the next couple of weeks Aurthur worked hard at his physical therapy during the morning, in the afternoon he was going to either an individual or group therapy session every couple of days. He started to accept visitors and phone calls from his friends as well, those offering their condolences over the loss of Aryca were the hardest for him. They both reminded him that the woman he knew was gone in one way, and that he couldn't tell any of them about Jax and what else was happening. The lies weighed on him some until he thought once again about how the world would react to and treat Jax.

Christmas came and went quickly with New Years following right behind and blowing past. Towards the middle January the doctor told Aurthur that he could be released if he had someone to stay with to continue his care as it would be some time before he could properly get around or stand long enough to cook meals for himself. His mother told the doctor he could stay with her during the rest of his recuperation. Right before being released, they had Aurthur up and moving on crutches and told him to take it easy at home.

Once released Aurthur kept up on his therapy, both physical and mental. while staying at his mother's home. She made sure he made his appointments and kept working towards getting back on his feet. During this time the family's lawyer came to see Authur in regard to the accident, medical bills and the insurance claim from the accident. He went through the paperwork almost robotically as thinking about the day that changed his life so much was not pleasant. With that done all Aurthur had to focus on was the future since the past had nothing left for him. The end of January was upon him with Aurthur starting to use a cane for short distances.

On the first of February Authur received some visitors at home. There was a knock on the door while his mother was out running some errands, so Aurthur yelled, "Come on in, door's open."

Abigail and Kacey entered the living room where he was stretched out on the couch. Seeing him looking better than the last time they spoke Kacey ran over and gave Aurthur a quick hug and smile before she released him. She stepped back letting the smile turn into an angry look and crossing her arms over her chest. Abigail walked up behind her daughter, looking down where Aurthur was laying, "I'm glad to see you out of the Hospital. We came by to check up on you."

Aurthur sat up on the sofa, "Thank you, both of you for coming to see me." Aurthur turned to Kacey, looked her straight in the eyes and said, "I owe you a sincere apology Kacey. I was miserable and took it out of you when you've been nothing but nice to me. I want to tell you I read the journal you kept, I enjoyed it greatly." Aurthur reached into the drawer on the end table to get her journal out. Reaching it out to her, "I hope you can forgive me for my behavior, and I'd like to read anything else you write, you have a talent for writing."

Kacey stepped forward and took the journal back. She handed to her mother and once again smiling, hugged Aurthur, "You made me mad, and you scared me. I'd never expected you to act like that. It looked like you were giving up," Kacey said.

"To tell you the truth Kacey," Aurthur said shaking his head, "I almost had. I was thinking about all the bad things that had happened to me and none of the good. If the accident hadn't occurred, I would have had you as a student but it's unlikely I would have gotten to know your mother or you beyond school. That would have been my loss. I understand that two people we both love have had their worlds irrevocably changed and bound together. All of us, you, your mother, me and most importantly, Jax herself need to find a way forward in life and I was only looking back in the hospital." Aurthur released the hug, "Thank you again for choosing to be among my friends," Authur said, looking first at Kacey then Abigail.

"I understand Aurthur, and had our places been swapped I can't say I'd not have been feeling the same way you were," Abigail said. "However, if Jax hadn't slapped you and read you the riot act I would have. I warned you about hurting my girls when we first met at the hospital."

"You did warn me, and I completely deserved that slap." Aurthur stated deadpan.

The rest of their visit was mostly small talk, catching Authur up on what they all have been doing. Information on Jax's recovery as well as her life in general. Jax wasn't there because she was in classes still, trying to finish her new degree early. The visit boosted his spirit, which he needed, and it flew by with them needing to leave coming all too quickly.

What does the future bring?
