Chapter 9

What next?
First steps
First thing to take care of was of course, the bed.
The two stood there, glaring at the bed and what it represented. Jenny scratching the side of her head, Mya hand on hip and rubbing her chin with the other one. They had debated sleeping on opposite sides, using blankets to block each other off, even taking turns on it while the other took the couch; nothing sounded good. Finally; Mya shrugged and turned to her new housemate.
“Halfies?” She asked Jenny just hands up at her sides in defeat.
“You read my mind.” Jenny said, holding up a large buzz saw that had replaced her hand, “How about you go shower and I’ll take this.” The saw started to spin with wicked intent but it was more worrying that there wasn't any expected loud sound coming from the tool.
“Only if you clean up.” Mya told the bot, heading towards the master bath. She wanted to clean up herself before doing any hard work around the house. Not that there seemed to be much to do besides look around right now.
“Yes, Mom.” Jenny dryly replied, waving her off with her free hand. As she got to work though, Mya saw a glimpse of the grin on robot's face.
As Jenny worked on the bed, Mya had the bathroom to herself. It was surprisingly large but that was due to having two of most facilities. Normal shower, toilet, and bathing tub/pool but the tub was next to another tub, separated by a few inches. When she checked both, one gave out water, the other a black substance. By the smell it was probably a form of oil and/grease. That made a sort of sense, water would probably mess with Jenny’s system, but wouldn't oil also do the same if it seeped in. Mya shruged about it, she knew it was a running gag that bots liked oil baths or something. Instead of a shower on Jenny's side, there seemed to be a human sized car wash stand. Also, no toilet for the robot, but there seemed to be a recharge stand of some kind.
Stripping down, she gave herself a look over in a full length mirror mounted to the wall. The main draw right now was her flawless skin; no blemish, no hair, no moles, nothing. Not even some old cuts and scars that had come with the work, or worn-down skin. She looked carved from stone and it was… a tad impressive and off putting. As if she was manufactured, just like Jenny was. Mya shivered at the thought as she stepped inside the shower. At least the warm water still felt just as good on her new body as it did her old.
There were a number of products to use to wash up, ranging from a number of cents. Lemon, pine, just 'clean fresh'; a lot of them were just strong generic ones but a couple were listed to be heavy anti grime or grease. Just the thing to clean up after a long day working on machines. "Though honestly, I'd probably soak in the bath." Mya thought as she quickly washed up. She didn't want to soak in the water too long, not with Jenny out there doing Jenny things.
When she came out, the bed was cut in half, rather neatly too. Jenny has even put plastic ends to make up for the missing parts both pieces now had. The robot seemed to have at least some experience with that kind of work. It did make a bit of sense that Jenny could clean up the town she sometimes destroyed in her heroics. Mya knew Superman would often do that from the few comics she read, so Jenny having the skills to repair furniture wasn't too out there.
“See I told you I could do iiiiiiiit….” Jenny started as she turned to beam with pride at a job well done. But her big smirk trailed off to a dumb ‘trying to process’ face as her words just got stuck in her throat.
Mya was wearing a green jumpsuit, the pants being cargo style with plenty of pockets. But the fabric clung to her and really showed off her figure, mainly her thighs and butt. She wasn’t even fully wearing it, as Mya had the upper part off her shoulders and tied around her waist like one would a jacket. In its place was a mix of a halter top and sports bra, a brilliant red in color, that was stretched over her chest, exposing her midriff and showing a decent amount of cleavage. She had some big work gloves on and heavy boots under it.
“……., you sure you aren’t one of those car models or something?” Jenny asked, after basically rebooting.
“I’ve been offered but those usually came with strings. Usually for … less than stellar agreements.” Mya said, waving off the shock Jenny had for now, “I just threw on some work clothes if I need them. The place has another one of those auto closets in the bathroom and it's... weird to get measured and dressed by it." She gestured down at her figure, "Felt like I was just a piece of meat."
The outfit reminded Jenny of the guys at the local car shop. Her mom had complained and fussed but didn’t t stop her when she visited them or when she went to get a ‘tune up’ some days. Jenny thought she looked good in hot-rod flames after all even though her mom went on about ‘No combat advantage’. She just never thought she'd see a woman dressed up like them.
Seeing Mya wearing those work clothes but still coming off as so…, womanly, was off putting. She tried picturing Brit in a similar outfit and couldn’t. Well, she could, but the mental mechanic version of Brit that Jenny dreamed up would be complaining about how sweaty she was, how grungy the outfit was, she her dad was gonna bear about it, blah blah blah. Mya at least to Jenny owned the look and wore it with a level of confidence she wasn’t fully expecting. She at least looked like she belonged in a jumpsuit... only if to have it pulled off...
“Jen? You, okay?” Mya asked, snapping her fingers in front of the robot’s face. The human's eyebrows drawing together as her head was tilted to the side.
“Huh what oh right! Sorry!” Jenny blurted out as one of her eyes started to display a ‘loading ‘circle, “Been distracted with surfing the net here. It’s really… different.” She hoped the small lie would distract her new partner.
“Not sure it’s a good idea to multi task like that.” Mya pointed out but Jenny shrugged as she gave out a off handed sigh.
“I’m used to it, though trying to process all the new data on top of how the morning has gone has..., been rough okay?” Jenny replied, as she bounced in place a bit and gave a little boxing punch, “I’ll get back into the groove soon enough. Just gimme like an hour.”
“For my sake just don’t do it when you’re using any…, industrial tools okay.” Mya said, her shoulders squeezing closer to her body as her mind pictured horrible results. She'd seen people get badly hurt while distracted and Jenny's tools and weapons were several grades above that.
“You’ll be fine, just duck.” The robot offered with a grin as she walked a bit closer to the human so they wouldn't be talking half a room away.
“Not funny.” Mya said with a deadpan glare. She wasn't sure about Jenny's sense of humor but best to just let that be for now. “So if you're surfing the net, that means we’re in a place that has people, and a sort of civilization. What did you find?” Mya was going to clobber the bot if she was just looking at cat pictures or something else silly.
“The city we're on the outskirts of is named Thaelos." Jenny extended her hand, and a glow came from her palm. Images started form in the light, showing off buildings, roads and infrastructure. It was hard to tell where one stopped and the other started, with sprawling sky scrapers, hotels, large casinos, parks, malls, business centers, and more. Being built on top of each other, it looked like an engineer’s best and worst dream. Beyond the city was a number of rolling hills and a steady coast line. A red circle near the start of those hills seemed to show their location in relation to everything else.
“The city seems designed to be a vacation hub, targeted towards college age and higher. Children attractions are here but not a main focus.” Jenny started to explain before Mya interrupted.
“So it’s closer to Las Vegas than Disney Land.” Mya noted, hoping that Jenny didn't have some sort of gambling bug in her. Wait could robots gamble considering they could math out the odds and cards so well?
“You mean Wizzly’s Weirdly World?” Jenny asked, tilting her head to the side. Mya just looked dumbfounded at the robot in response.
“I guess our worlds do have differences. Never mind, continue.” Mya gestured with a wave, "I'll tell you about it later."
"Anyway, we are on an Earth, but by the look of things, not either of ours. About 500 years in the future compared to my time, and they jumped up the tech tree sooner if articles are correct. World War 1 was moved up by 30 years as an example" Jenny explained, one of her eyes seemingly reflecting a wiki article where her iris should be, "Right now we're in west Unified Continental States or UCS. Or if you want something to focus on, Northern California near the coast."
“Great, I’m on the west coast….,” Mya groaned. Being an east coast girl, this was gonna be a rough stay. Speaking of, what about living arrangements? They had food yeah but the rest of it. “Okay so what about us? How set up are we? Do we need...,”
“The land belongs to us or at least someone that’s listed as letting us live on it. Probably Cupid’s work.” Jenny quickly answered, already guessing what Mya was going for. Her other eye displayed up a very legal looking PDF, “So good news, no Taxes or bills for a while.”
“But unless this place has its own power and other utilities, we’re gonna have to pay sooner or later huh?” Mya grumbled as she folded her arms. Given that Cupid had set this up, she half expected all their needs to be taken care of.
“We DO have solar panels and a small water treatment facility. BUT that’s probably more for the upkeep of the workshops and lab rather than living. I’m actually not sure how Mom got all her utilities off the top of my head.” Jenny explained. Looking back, her mom's bills probably had something to do with her previous role in the Sky Patrol.
“So, you’re thinking we can probably use those to either live on or work with but not both at the same time.” Mya asked. To which Jenny nodded as her eyes went back to normal and she stopped showing the map. "Guess Cupid just made sure we'd be set for awhile and then left to take care of ourselves after getting settled."
“Seems that way, given that neither of us had a lot of money. You just scraping by and well most my funds were tied up with my mom.” Jenny said, her hands glowing and showing money symbol holograms flowing from one to the other.
“Wait how did you know about my money problems?” Mya asked her eyes glaring daggers and her grip starting to tighten. Jenny backed up just a bit with her hands up.
“…Sorry. I kinda hacked both our accounts to make sure of what we had. So I got all your financial statements.” Jenny muttered, putting her fingers together, “I just wanted to see if there was… anything off about you. This wouldn’t be the first time someone tried to trick me. I wouldn’t think that someone tricking me would have a paper trail like that.” She held up a hand and seemed to print out a small piece of paper from a slot in her palm. When Jenny handed it over to Mya it looked like a bank statement of all her funds, converted to the local 'credit'.
“That does make a lick of sense, I suppose. What sort of bad guy spends all their time going around making fake bill payments. Just, ask me next time okay?” Mya plainly said as she put a hand to her temple with a side. When she composed herself again, she continued, “Putting it aside for now, how much do we have. Cause I didn’t have a whole lot.”
“Not much actually. Maybe a couple trips to the store or a couple bills but with no income…” Jenny started with a shrug, "It's gonna burn out real fast. Unless we find jobs or find a way back home, maybe three months when they start charging us in like one month?" Jenny's hands made another hologram of expected costs and budget plans to go with it.
“Well money is gonna be tight, so better be glad we have plenty of supplies.” Mya finished, scratching the back of her head, “May have to sell some of those to local shops if need be or get a job at one of them. I am goo with my hands so if anyone's hiring should be a shoe in to get a gig. You too with all your fancy stuff."
“Oh, we can hit the clubs too! And try out the local fashion and food too!” Jenny exclaimed, hopping up and down a bit. She had almost instantly put the money graphics away when she thought about going to the city.
“What part of, ‘no cash’, did you not process?” Mya said, giving the robot another narrowed glare. She had to think about what she knew of Jenny from the show.
Mya wasn’t an expert on the show Jenny was from but she recalled the bot being…, well a teenage girl. Interested in teen drama and worries, as per usual. One of the gags, or repeated plot points was Jenny wanted to do human teen activities and being confused or naïve about how it worked. Or finding out her robot body hampered it, like swimming or skateboarding(Her legit weight broke a lot of things). Mya remembered only that much of the show besides fight monsters and robots.
Now though, it seemed like she was of Collage age and probably had all the wants and desires of a girl fresh off the leash, or close to it. Not a ‘party’ girl but probably prone to going out and doing something new and dumb because she could now and had read about it. Had to live that college/young adult experience. So basically, the type of girl who would do 20 shots or so one night just to try and then swear off drinking the next day. Only to suggest going snowboarding the next week. Well, maybe she’d prove Mya wrong as she was supposed to be a ‘hero’ too if what knowledge of the show the human had was right.
“Moving on," Mya said after taking a breath, "IDs? Documents? If we have bank accounts we have to all the related info. And yes you have permission to access mine.” she was about to add something else, before realizing another detail, “Wait are you gonna be okay here? Robots walking around might freak people out.”
“I checked mine and yes I do have an ID, or at least serial number. For your second question, Robots and cybernetic humans exist so I should be okay just walking around. Oooooo, I wonder if I can trade some clothes or maintenance tips with them!” Jenny’s eyes literally started to sparkle at the idea.
“Focus Jen. Fun later.” Mya stated her hands brought up parallel to each other, causing the robot to sigh.
“Fiiiiiine. You also have an ID card too, and all the records that go along with it. I’m assuming that Cupid's Wish converted everything over that we needed to survive.” Jenny gave a bit of a stretch, giving out another sigh one of being tired. Did robots get tired? Well she slept last night Mya noted before Jenny asked, “Anything else? I’d like to hit the bathroom myself. Kinda want to hose the dust off me.”
“Oh, go right ahead. I’ll be in that workshop on this floor. The one that had the office attached.” Mya said thumbing the door as turned to leave as Jenny moved to the bathroom.
“Wait..,” Jenny called as she poked her head past the door frame she just passed, “Why there?”
“I think I can understand how to use the computer there better than those in the lab. I’ll see what info I can dig up while you wash.” Mya explained. Jenny wished her luck with a thumbs up.
Well, it wasn’t a fully useless attempt.
Mya grumbled as she spun in the office chair. The room was split into a small office and work area. Like a garage that had a spot dedicated to record keeping and research. The work area had two work tables that could be lowered, raised, moved and combined in a couple different ways. The walls had a couple racks of tools and parts but not as much as the main lab seemed to have.
The office side had a couple bookcases, filled with reading material. Some were fictional books but most were instructional guides and ‘how to do’ books. That side also had a big board desk with a computer and laptop on it, along with large red tool box. The laptop was her old one…, or what seemed to be the latest model of her old one. Desktop was also brand new and fresh, with both having all her data from her old machine on them. So it was good that she didn't lose all of that, as little as she kept on her laptop.
Including her contract.
Mya kicked herself about not really filling in the info, leaving the contract pretty vague. In her defense, the laptop had died in the middle of it. There wasn’t too much about ‘breaking’ said contract. There had to be a ‘Terms and Conditions’ to read from to get a clue. On a whim, she googled it(or whatever the local search engine was) and found rumors after stories, after tall tells; but no concrete info. Cupid didn’t even have a website up and running yet. She fought to remember just how she came across the site only to come up with nothing. She just busied herself with looking around some more.
Finally, Mya found some records, buried away in the desk draws. It had printed out contracts for both of them, deed to the house and surrounding area, yet to be filled out marriage licenses, and just all the paperwork needed for a married couple. It just needed to be finalized with both their signatures. She didn't understand some of it; in part because she didn't really put much thought into the legal side of marriage. Some of the documents and word choice were confusing to her. That probably was due to the world they were currently in. If the 'happy couple' left to a new world, Mya was pretty sure these documents would be altered to automatically fit into whatever legal system the world had.
"Pffff, yeah. Right. Like that would happen." Mya muttered, as she gave a few pages a hard tug. Didn't even wrinkle the page, so it's probably not that easy to get rid of it.
“Anything?” Came a voice from the doorway. Jenny must have gotten done washing up.
“Yeah found some stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.......," Mya droned off as she brought her head up to greet Jenny.
She'd seen Jenny near naked but...., clothes REALLY DO have an effect. Jenny had swapped out the loose yoga pants and t-shirt for something a bit more... showy. She was wearing a black tight sports crop top, and running tights. Her long 'boots' were still on, but the tights continued on into the boots. While it was just a simple outfit and probably fit a normal girl, Jenny's ... upgrades had filled out her choice of clothing. The tights showed off every curve of her thighs and butt, and were currently low enough to show off the seams at her hips, making it look like she was wearing a thong. Her crop top was stretched out to accommodate her new chest in such a way that gave a VERY good look at her chest. Currently she was slipping on a big windbreaker jacket, one that seemed pretty worn and personalized with a few clips and stickers.
https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/952/112/8c2.jpg - decent idea. Or just look up LonLon's stuff on twitter, he does GOOD Jenny Work.
"Hey.. you okay?" Jenny asked, as she finished pulling on the jacket and started to zip it up as she walked over. Her hips were swaying absentmindedly which drew attention before Mya had to look away.
"OH yeah, FINE!" Mya blurted out, shuffling the papers randomly to just look busy, "Just wasn't..., wait do you get cold enough for a jacket?"
"Self Temperature Regulating is built into my systems. But the Jacket helps with that and acts as basically a wearable solar panel. Besides it's comfy." Jenny said, trying to finish zipping up the jacket but gave up when her new boobs stopped the slider just under them.
"Marriage was RIGHT out...., but damn if Cupid doesn't know how to give a girl a figure that makes me want to TAP DAT." Mya mentally noted while trying to calm down. Maybe it had been too long since she got any but Jenny was looking real nice after cleaning up. Calming down let Mya really take in all the details better too.
"So what's all this then?" Jenny asked, pointing at the paperwork. Mya looked at the pages and realized she wasn't sure which ones she was holding.
"Basically everything to prove that we're married to basically any and all record keepers." Mya said, handing over a couple pages for the robot to look at, "And don't BOTHER trying to rip it up. I tried that."
"...If you say so." Jenny said, and she shook her arm to revert her arm back to normal. Mya was pretty sure the girl had a flamethrower instead of a limb for JUST a second. How fast could the robot transform her body? Something to ask later.
"Also the deeds to everything, passports and records, our contracts, required government paperwork; just been trying to flip through and.." Mya listed off before Jenny interrupted.
"Wait.... go back." Jenny said moving up to Mya's side.
"What the Passports?" Mya asked with a raised eyebrow as Jenny looked over the human's shoulder.
"No the contracts. Lemme see lemme see!" Jenny cried as she started to dig through the papers Mya was holding and yoinked out the requested ones before taking a few steps back to read.
"Geeze girl, you need to get your impulse under control." Mya said as she continued to flip through the remaining papers, putting down those that didn't seem currently useful or needed. Cupid's Wish HAD done their work, that much was certain but geeze there was a LOT of paperwork. Then she heard it, a sound a mechanic really doesn't like to hear but grows used to hearing.
The sound of scraping metal on metal.
Mya paused and looked around, not seeing what was making it before turning to Jenny to ask. Only for the words to catch in her throat.
Jenny stood there, shaking... though maybe vibrating was a better word, as she held a worn letter. Every so often her teeth would close together and make a worrying screetch sound as she ground them against each other. Jenny's breath grew heavy and inconsistent as her body began to shake more as her eyes followed line after line on the letter, gripping it harder in her hands almost threatening to tear it apart. A more worrying issue was how the blue of her hair was starting to be replaced by a bright red at the tips and rising across her pigtails.
"Hey... Jen..., you okay?" Mya asked, reaching out to put a hand on Jenny's shoulder.
The robot spun away as if hit by something, putting some distance between them as she held up the letter, her eyes darting from it to Mya. As angry or frustrated as Jenny looked, her eyes told a different story. Mya had seen eyes like that, the kind that completely mist up to cry her heart out but are just unable or unwilling to let it go. Before Mya could ask, Jenny crunched the paper into a wad and chucked it across the room with enough **** to not only embedded it into the wall but the shock sent a few things tumbling to the floor room the tables and racks in the room. Jenny ran the moment the paper slammed into the wall, kicking the door out of the way and vanishing down the hall.
"JEN WAIT!!" Mya had cried, moving to follow her before tripping and falling on her face. Getting up just a bit, she looked to see what had made her trip. It was the toolbox that had been on the table. Jenny's act must have knocked it off the table, and when it hit the ground all sorts of parts fell out. Wrenches, circuit boards, wires, oil can, etc etc; but the thing that drew her eye was a small tablet like device that had a small flowing hologram above it that said "IMPORTANT, READ NOW - PROTOCOL XJ-9".
Mya picked it up and was wondering what this was about. If it was Related to Jenny or her mood swing, maybe this could help? After all she was XJ-9 and the device seemed to have picked up on it. But before she could do anything, she heard the sound of an engine.
The mechanic ran to the window that was in the room and looked out, only to catch the sight of Jenny taking off on one of the motorcycles. Off to the city by the look of it.
Mya sighed and scratched the back of her neck as she fell into the chair that somehow didn't get knocked over. What a fine mess this was. The question was;
What was she gonna do now?
