Surprisingly embarrassed.

"John...is this REALLY the best you have?" I turned to see Mai standing at the door, tugging on the t-shirt I gave her as if it could stretch down as far as she wanted it. With those melons on her chest, the shirt was smaller on her then I expected. Guess I forgot to take that into consideration. Oops.

Rubbing the back of my head, I shrugged. "Sorry, Mai. It's not like I was expecting you," I lied. I DID have her swimsuit around somewhere...but decided to pretend it was a recent purchase when I showed it to her. I'm sure that would fit perfectly...but it would surely not be enough.

Shivering, Mai sighed. "This barely does a thing for the cold..." she complained. She was probably programmed to be used to the heat of the Fire Nation. It wasn't all that cold at all. Must have been at least 74F outside.

I tapped my chin as I thought a moment, then I had an idea. "Alright...if you're cold, I can get you some blankets," I offered. "I'll also make sure your clothes get cleaned. You'll be able to wear them again without a problem. Then we can go out and get you a wardrobe." By the time the word 'blankets' were out of my mouth, Mai was already getting into my bed, bundling up. She sighed, her shivering soon stopping.

"You can get my clothes cleaned that quickly?" Mai asked, seemingly surprised. "Marvels of the modern age," I said, smiling. There was that familar tug on Mai's lips as she laid back. "Whatever. Do what you have to do, then get back here. I could use the body heat." I wasn't sure if that was a subtle invitation or if she was being completely serious. In either case, I decided to hurry up and get her clothes in the wash.

It was pretty handy that her clothes were machine washable. I guess it was made with the customer's convience in mind. Putting the clothes in, I closed the lid and returned to my room. Mai pulled the covers back expectingly. I slipped in with her and she immediately snuggled up to me, sighing. ...again.
