Tutoring Hell

You facepalmed once more as Mary failed once again to cast much less form a simple fireball. Mary, Veronica’s first year sister was struggling in her elementalist classes and with you being such an avid element user she figured you could tutor her little sister in the arts.

You sighed as she yelled the incantations for a fireball only for a small spark to sputter out of her wand before fizzling into nothingness.

“I’m not getting this at all why can’t I use elements properly especially fire which according to Professor Aspecta is supposed to be my affinity!” Mary yelled as she stamped her feet in frustration.

You sighed walking closer to her before holding your hand out in front of her as a small flame began to materialize in the palm of your hand.

“Fire is not just a heat source or a toy you just cast around but a living breathing thing.” You said as the small flame disappeared before reappearing as a much smaller flame on the tip of your index finger. “Like any breathing living thing a flame needs oxygen to breathe and fuel to survive the air around me supplies the oxygen and my mana the fuel to sustain it.”

You said as the fire engulfed your hand but didn’t burn or consume it.

“You keep treating fire like a rock your trying to throw or tool your trying to use but your not focusing on the fact that while you may not think fire is a sentient living thing it most certainly is and it won’t form if the conditions for life aren’t met.” You said softly before holding your index finger out in front of you before breathing in and exhaling releasing a large fireball into the wall of the training room.

“Again!” You said crossing your arms.

You watched as Mary held out her hand closing her eyes in focus before silence took over. For a few minutes you thought she was gonna need a refresher on channeling mana when a small tiny flame appeared in the palm of her hand. Opening her eyes she smiled before speaking.

“Professor Aspecta said that fire was destruction, chaos incarnate and that it would consume anything and everything.”

You nodded. “She’s right however as I said before fire is also a living breathing thing and like anything other living breathing thing it deserves a chance like anything else in the world to live.” You said as Mary closed her hand letting the flame go out.

“For now I recommend you practice channeling Mana and mana control exercises it’ll help with fire magic.” You said as Mary nodded before you walked away your tutoring time finally being up.
