Is the journey eventful?
No. You reach the area of the ambush as night falls.
It takes a full day of riding at fast as you can without harming your horse to reach the area the carriage disappeared, but you make it in one day, as predicted. Aside from a few cases of wandering hands from the man behind you during bumpier parts of the journey, it was more or less uneventful, if absolutely exhausting.
"We don't want to run into whatever took out the carriage in this state. Let's make camp, we'll find out what happened tomorrow."
Thyros nods, and cups his mouth, calling out "STOP" to the riders on the other horse.
It doesn't take you long to find somewhere to rest in this part of the woods; there's abandoned enough logging camps for you to stop pretty much anywhere.
When you dismount from your horse, you almost fall over. A full day of riding has left you sore in places you didn't even know existed. Only the dwarf seems to not be phased by the experience; you're not sure whether that's because of the armor, or just his nature. With a quick rummage through your bag, you produce a bundled up tent seemingly larger than would fit in its interior, and toss it onto the ground unceremoniously with a quick glance at the tiefling man.
"Could you set that up for me? I have some preparations I need to make."
You're lying, of course, you just don't have the energy to build a tent, but he doesn't know that. The expression he gives you indicates he doesn't quite believe you; you're willing to admit it's not your best work; but he sets about doing it anyway.
You take the time to lean up against a tree and practice some illusion cantrips, fingering a small section of fleece in your jacket while making intricate gestures with one of your hands, and causing all manners of objects to appear before you while trying to look busy.
Deep in thought, you snap back to awareness when Daseil shouts out for you.
"Vithe?! Got first watch? I know you 'casters like to get your sleep uninterrupted."
