Chapter 15

What next?
Late Lunch with the girls.
(been a tad down, may rewrite this better later)
“Not bad for your first time.”
The girls dug into the food with a chorus of “mmms”. It wasn’t a proper melt, the kitchen didn’t have carmelized onions so some quick grilled onions were used. The grilled bread lacked the crisp crunch, but the cheese and meat were just right…, or close enough. To Kendra, it was pretty good for Alex's first time making it. The spies however thought it was good... to varying degrees.
“Mmmmm sooo’h gooood…” Alex exclaimed as she woofed down a bite, “I can’t believe how it turned out.”
“It is pretty good, isn’t it Clover?” Sam asked, her voice going a tad cold.
“It’s okay. Filling at least. Good work though Alex. Your practices have been paying off.” Clover answered, ignoring the bait placed in front of her. Kendra rolled her eyes as the three talked among themselves. At least they were chatting again.
"Clover probably wasn't too... enthralled by the food due to her own tastes and disliking me at the moment", she thought before glancing at Sam, "She on the other hand probaly did like so there's that. Still regardless of what they feel about me, or each other, they don't want to hurt Alex's feelings. They really are good friends at the end of the day."
“Oh Kendra, quick question. Where’d you learn to make Patty Melts from?” Alex asked, turning with the look of a small child expecting a wonderful story. She was just as animated as she was on the show. Sam nodded her head and expressed the same thought. Clover just arched an eyebrow and took another bite.
“Oh it’s…, not terribly exciting story.” Kendra started, shuffling in her seat, “See early on my family wasn’t well off. Not scraping by but two or more shake ups would be bad. Anyway, my dad would always try to find ways of making money. Usually he did this by eating local food and small meal trucks but he fished for recipes. You know, cheap stuff he could make at home without losing taste."
"So dumpster cooking eh?" Clover muttered.
"CLOVER! Be nice." Sam snapped.
"What? You were thinking it Sammy. I'd kill for a smoothie but this will have to do." Clover counted, "Nothing against you Alex but this food is probably Suuuuper fatty with all the grease and carbs in it. Geeze, how pudgy were you before Cupid got to you?"
Sam shook her head with a sigh. Clover had started to get revved up. The girl was mad as all heck and wanted to take it out on someone. Too bad she only had one target but this was starting to get overboard. Clover was usually this mean only to Mandy and well...., Mandy was a bitch yeah..., but Kendra had been nice enough most the day.
"I suppose that also explains the thrift store look of your closet too. Oh just thinking about spending time in one makes me nauseous."
"Clover, you're being mean." Alex said, noting how Kendra kept slinking down in her chair at Clover's words.
"Someone has to be!" came the answer as Clover slammed the table, "How are you two so calm about this! Some jumped up app thought to pair us, Beverly Hills Babes with..., with..., fucking discount Sylvia Marpole! What is wrong with you two? I don't care if this is a vacation to you Alex, this is just too weird. And the fact you're just OKAY with all of this Sam?!?"
"It's quiter here than back home, and I get away from my mother who's been hounding me, much like your own has. Don't take out your own family issues out on me Clover, I've got enough of them thank you." Sam said with a knowing looking and a sip of her drink.
"And I've been wanting to get away for a while. So yeah I'm gonna take this in stride. Free house, food, gym, hope I get to keep the equipment too..." Alex started to list off.
"Oh my god Alex could you just STOP being a Gym bunny for ONE FUCKING SECOND...."
Clover stopped mid sentence, eyes wide. The other two had simliar looks of shock while Alex's face slowly twisted to a look of hurt. Sam however narrowed her eyes and scrunched her shoulders, reading herself for a massive telling off before the blonde stomped away, fumes almost viable from her head. But Kendra could see the look on her face, her teeth visibly grinding but tears starting to form. Before she could ask anything the blonde was gone and the silence left behind was rather overwhelming.
The other two spies took a moment before speaking.
"Sorry about that Kendra. Clover just.... being a Diva." Sam sighed as she took up both hers and Clover's plates, taking them over to the sink. "She's just lashing out right now. I'll, agh..., go have a word with her. Just... later."
"No that's.... okay. I kinda get it. No one expects to be randomly **** into a marriage, especially someone that's basically a 180 from what their expected or desired match was." Kendra offered. The words had stung, but there was something there that caught her interest. Anyone else would have focused more on the insults, on the hate. Heck if the blonde hadn't said one thing, Kendra's dander was probably going to act up. But Kendra's mind latched onto something weird, a core interest to her.
How did Clover know the name of an obtuse cartoon character for a straight to dvd movie that showed up only once?
Still..., if Clover was going to be held up in her room in a gruff and Sam trying to talk her down..., would this be the best time to do something with Alex? Espically with how hurt she seemed to be?
