But This Denoted a Foregone Conclusion

The night sky was beautiful with a full moon. There was no light pollution, you could see every star in the sky. The bright moonlight reflected off of a pond in the center of the glade. Predator and prey alike gathered around the pond to drink or relax near the water in an unspoken truce.

In the water played and splashed beautiful humanoid creatures that took a female form. Their skin and hair were all aquatic shades, from deep blue to a pale teal and more. When they blinked, they did so twice, one for each set of eyelids. Their facial features were human enough, if just very slightly off. When they saw their guest they looked at her with curious eyes, there were smiles and waves. Some of them whispered to one another and giggled or blushed depending on just how salacious the bit of gossip was.

Against a small rocky island of sorts in the center of the pond, lounged a very beautiful, very naked pale woman, Her lips were ruby red, the aquatic girls surrounding her played with her long black hair. When she turned to look in the direction of the newcomer, they could see her eyes were milky white, like one of the Keepers.

Maria furrowed her brow thinking, “you’re divine, aren’t you?”

“Most days,” she grinned.

“But you won't tell me your name?”

You should ask questions, have doubts.” she chuckled, “but then again I am kind of a shitty goddess I suppose. There was a time, I was supplanted by false gods... I waged a war in the shadows to take back what was mine, it only cost me everything I held dear.”

Maria’s features softened. She could hear a ring of truth in what the goddess was saying.

“But, you don’t want to hear about that sob story, I have a gift for you. Pluck a single blade of grass and hold it in your hand if you would.”

Somewhat skeptical of this but curious Maria bent down, giving an owl perched in a tree behind her an eye full, and plucked a single blade of grass. Standing up, she held it flat in the palm of her hand.

The young knight looked at skeptically. “Kind of sounds too good to be true... also this is a dream it’s not like I’m gonna wake up with this.”

“Well, it would hardly be a worthy gift coming from a goddess if it weren’t powerful. Also... how do you know what you will and won't wake up,” she grinned.
