Yang x Ren (Yoga class)

Ditching Ruby on her first day at Beacon academy was something Yang considered to be a necessary evil. Yang was not expecting to end up in the same team as her. Thus, Ruby would need to learn how to make friends on her own.

Yang’s friends from Signal academy had various interests distinct from her own. They took a look at the societies available in Beacon academy together on their first day. The yoga society drew Yang's attention the most. Yatsuhashi was running the yoga society- he was handed the reins after a large chunk of the yoga society graduated last year.

Team CFVY helped promote the yoga society with Yatsuhashi at the Freshers' Fair. The survival of this relatively small society was resting on their shoulders. Catching the wave of first years like Yang was crucial.

On a whim, Yang decided to sign up. Her commitment was not guaranteed in her mind until she completed the Beacon initiation. Though her reasoning for joining was not to seek enlightenment... Yang had a profound appreciation for men that were flexible. Where better to find such men than a yoga class?

Similarly, Ren considered joining the yoga society with an ulterior motive. When the day of the Beacon initiation arrived, Ren felt overwhelmed by Nora waking him in the morning. She yammered on for half an hour about how they could guarantee ending up on the same team and how excited she was. It wasn't that Ren did not want to end up on the same team as Nora. Or that he too wasn't excited about becoming a huntsman. He just needed space...

A calm, tranquil space to collect his thoughts. A place to empty his burdens and re-balance himself. Ren cared deeply for Nora but felt exhausted from being around her some days.

Like Nora said during her marathon rambling, they have been friends for soooooooo long. They made ends meet through terrible circumstances. Ren barely remembers his life before meeting Nora. The yoga society offered a safe distance to make his heart grow fonder.

Attachment is a strange phenomenon. According to some, it is the primary cause of human suffering. Others would argue that without attachment there is no meaning to human existence. All this to say fate binds us to whatever we become attached to (for better or worse). We are caught in an endless knot of causality. Desire and action based upon desire shape destiny. Many practitioners of yoga call this "karma".

The Beacon initiation was intended to make team pairings for new huntsmen as random as possible. However, Ren and Yang ended up on the same teams as the people they wanted to create space with. Ren would join Nora on Team JNPR. Yang would join Ruby on Team RWBY.

In their hearts, they concluded that there was no escaping love. Only brief reprieves before we are hurdled back into the cyclone. Nevertheless, Ren and Yang still needed room to breathe. Meeting with new people from time to time can be refreshing. Especially if you bump into someone with common interests!

Though I offer a word to the wise on the matter of attachment and love- even if we escape one vortex, people inevitably find something new which they will cling to. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Ren and Yang broke away from their teams to participate in their first yoga class sometime after the Beacon initiation. Their eyes met as Yang walked into the room assigned to the yoga society shortly before Yatsuhashi was prepared to start. Yang is glad to see Ren!

"Hey, I remember you!" Yang calls cheerfully to Ren.

Yang was wearing decidedly little to the yoga class. Ren squirms uncomfortably as her cleavage jiggles towards him through her crop top.

"It's... nice to see you too!" Ren replies politely.

"Where's the rest of your team?" Yang asks while sitting on the yoga mat next to Ren.

"I'm here by myself. I wanted yoga as a hobby to be just for me."

"Same. I'm on a team with my sister and two other girls who won't stop arguing all the time."

"You have a sister on your team?"

"Yeah! Ruby's my half-sister. I know, we look nothing alike. Everyone says that. My dad had a relationship with two women on the same huntsmen team as him!"

"What?! Don't tell me he was dating both of them at the same time!"

"Definitely not!"

"Are you sure?"

Yang laughs as she pats Ren on the shoulder. His dry wit tickled her funny bone! Ren chuckles along with Yang. Ren feels surprisingly comfortable talking to her.

"I didn't catch your name by the way. I'm Yang Xiao Long."

"My name is Lie Ren. Where in Mistral are you from?"

"My dad's side comes from the capital. My mom... she's from somewhere in the north. Where are you from?"

"My parents come from a remote village on the outskirts of the capital."

Yatsuhashi hits a gong to draw the attention of the yoga class. He is pleased by the numbers he has in attendance. Most of the people in attendance were girls. Yatsuhashi had many eyes on him, including Yang's.

How many students will vanish from Beacon's yoga society over the course of the year? How many will become regular attendees? Who or what will they become attached to?
