Weiss saved many pictures of Pyrrha on her scroll prior to her enrolment at Beacon, dreaming of the day she could greet her in person. Pyrrha got onto Weiss' radar when she won the Mistral regional tournament four years in a row. Her win streak was legendary in her fourth regional tournament, not losing a single match during the entire run! Pyrrha spoke against the prejudices present in Mistral society also. The kingdom of Mistral had a history of conquering neighbouring settlements in the North and South of the Amina continent, then subjugating their people. Aspects of the feudal system that once dominated Mistral still exist despite their monarchy being abolished following the Great War. Northern and Southern Mistrali (like Pyrrha) are considered low born. Thus, they struggle to reach higher circles of Mistral society unless they are entertainers or join the military.

The kingdom of Mistral was devastated when Pyrrha announced she would be attending Beacon academy once she graduated from primary combat school. Her reasoning was not made clear by the media. Pyrrha chose to reserve her thoughts on that matter. The news came as a double shock to Weiss- she learned Pyrrha would be attending Beacon after they successfully enrolled at Beacon academy too! The stars were aligning! Her fantasy of meeting with Pyrrha could finally become a reality!

Weiss understood the elitist attitude which Pyrrha condemned and the pressure of being a public personality.
