Chapter 16 by Rabidwolf Rabidwolf

A night in jail.

A quiet night in.

In the sheriff's office Lisa was directed into the cell area behind the front office. Bob motioned her into a cell and Lisa walked over to the straw covered shelf that served as a bed. Behind her, Lisa heard the cell door close and the jangle as keys turned in the lock.

Bob left Lisa alone. The only thing in the cell other than the shelf was a bucket which Lisa guessed would be her toilet during her stay. Lisa sat on the shelf. It creaked dangerously but held. Lisa lay down and was soon asleep. Lisa, who was used to sleeping rough, slept soundly on the self.

"Miss Lisa?"

Lisa woke at the sound of Beth's voice. Beth was standing in the cell, the door open. In her hands Beth had a plate of bacon and eggs, plus a cup of coffee.

"Morning Beth." Lisa said sitting up. "The sheriff let you in?"

"No miss Lisa." Beth answered putting the plate and cup beside Lisa. "Locks are broken."

Lisa chuckled and shook her head slightly.

"Um...Beth. Could you give me a minute alone, please?" Lisa asked looking shyly at the bucket.

"Oh sorry." said Beth blushing. "I'll be just outside."

After Beth left Lisa used the bucket to relieve herself. She then carried her plate and cup thru to the front office.

In the front office Lisa found Beth talking quietly with Bob. His shotgun was the solitary weapon the gunrack. His gunbelt looped over the back of his chair.

"Am I gonna 'ave a problem with you?" Bob asked Lisa.

"Not if I can wash up." Lisa replied.

"Over there." Bob nodded towards the side where a jug of water and a wash bowl were placed.

Lisa washed her hands and face. Then she joined Beth and Bob at the table and started on her breakfast.

"So Beth tells me you want to help us with the Lynchers?" Bob asked Lisa.

"Yeah." Lisa answered looking at Beth.

"That's what we hired Bryant and the Hawkins boys for." Bob countered.

"And they did nothing!" Beth stated.

"But how do I know that you won't just cut out and run?" Bob asked Lisa. "It's not like you got any ties here."

Lisa smiled at Beth.

"I could get a job." Lisa told them...

Job options.
