"Old Bob" Thorn, sheriff of Deadneck.

"Old Bob." Billy called out. "Whats goin' on?"

"I told you kids before, its sheriff Thorn." Thorn told the kids, then to Lisa. "Ok blondie. Up ya get. Nice and slow."

Lisa placed her hands on the table and stood up. She brought up her hands to shoulder height and slowly turned around.

Robert Thorn had short white hair and full beard. His face was heavily lined and wrinkled. He was 5'5" but stood hunched over so was maybe 1" shorter than Lisa now she was standing.

"Whats this about sheriff?" Beth asked.

"The murders of Jack Bryant and Seth Hawkins. As well as the wounding of Brett Hawkins." Thorn informed them all.

"If you mean the 3 guys at the edge of town," Lisa explained, "that was self defense."

"Then theres horse stealin'." Thorn added. "I'll want to talk to you kids 'bout that too."

"Come on sheriff." Beth said "Those 3 were thugs."

"We brought them here to fight the Lynchers," Billy added "and in 2 months have done nothing!"

There were a number of calls agreeing with Billy's last statement. Thorn looked around nervously as the diners for the most part seemed to be behind Lisa.

Both Lisa and sheriff Thorn realized the danger of the current situation. Thorn looked pleadingly at Lisa for help.

"Easy Beth." Lisa said.

With her left hand Lisa removed her gunbelt and laid it on the table behind her.

"Watch this for me Billy." Lisa told Billy.

Lisa watched as Billy picked up her gunbelt. He was about to pull the colt from its holster, but Beth stopped him with a slap to his hand. Lisa now turned her attention back to Thorn.

"Shall we go, sheriff?" Lisa asked.

"Lead on." Thorn told Lisa.

Lisa started walking out, but was stopped by the call from Thorn.

"Slow down there miss."

Lisa looked at Thorn and saw that he walked with a limp. Lisa slowed her pace to match "Old Bob" Thorn's.

"Miss Lisa?" Beth called out in concern.

Lisa looked at Beth and gave her a reasuring smile.

"I'll be fine Beth" Lisa said with more confidence than she felt.

Thorn then led Lisa to the sheriff's office and jail.
