She comes back to camp

Layla came back some time later. Whatever she hunted and ate clearly satiated her. She was lying by the fire, not fully asleep yet, but already dozing away. On the opposite side lied Doris, silently watching the skies.

"I don't know how you do it. I never made such distance in a single day." Fairy stated.

"A lot of it is thanks to Kelara here. Otherwise we would be like a dozen miles behind."

Kelara lied on her side, and kept looking at the fire with dreamy eyes. She nodded at your statement.

"Can we not go so far tomorrow? My legs are so sore." Fairy complained.

"Excuse me Doris, but did you walk on your own at all today?" Kelara pointed out, and Doris didn't find a retort.

"In my world we use vehicles, machines to move hundreds and even thousands of miles every day."

"Fascinating... Can you tell me, I mean us, more?" Centaur asked.

"Yes, yes, what are these machines you keep talking about, my darling?" Layla suddenly got out from her half slumber.

"Well, we have a lot of them, different kinds. But most operate on the same rule of moving a wheel, like carriages. Speaking of which, what kind of species does usually pull the carriage in here?" You asked.

Kelara went on to respond right away.

"Minotaur girls. They are bigger cousins of cow girls. They grow usually to eight feet tall, and have strength surpassed only by few species."

"Interesting. Anyway, imagine a carriage with four wheels being pulled by these minotaurs." Kelara and Doris focused on your words. Layla clearly got bored already and kept herself busy with clinging close to your body. You allowed that to appease her. "Now, remove the minotaurs. Our carriages, we call them cars, are like that."

"What moves them forward, human? I bet it's magic." Doris still, still not using your first name.

"No, our world barely has any magic. And we didn't have any until we got connected with your world."

"Outrageous! How did the fairies of your world survived without magic?" Doris was appalled by your revelation.

"I'm pretty sure fairies don't exist in my world. Or, at least, they didn't until the portal."

"Can you speak more about those machines, please? I find them fascinating." Centaur pleaded.

"Our cars are being moved by engines. Those are complicated sets of machineries that are being operated from inside the vehicle by the driver. Engine burns the fuel, gas, electricity, whatever is powering it to move the car forward."

"How do you give it a command to move left, or right?"

"We use a steering wheel. It's connected to front wheels and when we turn it, car turns."

"Wow, it's that simple." Kelara looked at you with big eyes.

"We also have whole bunch of other vehicles. Motorcycles, which are basically carriages with just two wheels. Trucks, that are huge carriages to carry goods. On the sea we use boats, but also..."

You kept talking about your world for hours. You described to them ships that don't use sails or rows, flying vehicles able to travel thousands of miles per day, submarines which fairy straight out rejected and said you were lying about it. Spaceships, that made Layla suddenly interested, apparently she really liked looking at the moon and wanted to reach it with her webs a lot of times, but it didn't work. When you told her that your specie, humans, reached moon over fifty years ago, she insisted that you take her there. You jokingly promised that if opportunity arises, you will.

You could sense that Kelara knew you are holding something back. That you spared them listening about something. You didn't describe any machine of war. No battleships, no aircraft carriers. No jet fighters or bombers. No tanks or armored cars. They didn't need to hear or know about those. They didn't need to know about projectiles that can kill someone from miles away, about guided missiles, drones, bombs, shells. About cyber attacks, weaponized gases, weapons of mass destruction, about everything that made your world a truly horrible place to live. You allowed them to dream of your world like it's some sort of paradise. You knew that it's anything but that.
