Political scandal! (Also science experiment gone wrong)

LOCAL POLITICIAN CAUGHT! screams the headline, and your eye runs over the usual sordid details; sexual impropriety, financial irregularities... never seems to just be one or the other, does it? Still, there is a vicarious pleasure to be had in the downfall of the powerful, whether the circumstances are formulaic or otherwise.

A couple of other local interest sidebars accompany this main story, including an amusing story about a cat, and a column about a fire at the local University's High-Energy Physics department. Or was it the Macrogenomics department? The story is maddeningly unclear about who or what was responsible or indeed any details at all except to say that nobody was seriously hurt and the fire brigade eventually put out the blaze.
