Chapter 32 by leroy

Enact Her Captain's Punishment
"I have made my decision. Petty Officer York your superior officer's judgment is enough for me. Forfeiture of raid share and probation." Katla could tell she was about to protest and continued on. "You are getting off lightly and you know it. Unless you'd like to request a formal court-martial?" That was the only step left to her now if she still wasn't satisfied. Katla sincerely doubted she would take that option. When both a Captain and a Commodore came to the same conclusion a jury of peers(in the legal sense rather than the noble one) was unlikely to refuse it without very good reason.
"No Commodore," York replied.
"Then this is mast is dismissed." Katla finalized, turning York off. A moment later she called the Nightsong's Captain to inform her of the result.
"Good evening Commodore." The term was a little bit early, it was only ship 1700. "Did everything go well?"
"I enacted your punishment. You know your ship better than I do and there wasn't much else I could do other than make a full-blown example." Katla rubbed her chin for a moment like she'd seen villains in some movies do for some reason. "Which was fairly tempting I'll admit."
"Your support is appreciated, Commodore. I admit her sister had something to do with it but it seemed fair under the circumstances." Isabella replied.
"Her sister?" Katla asked.
"Ensign Bridges and she are sisters. Separated by about three years. The ensign was accepted into the main family branch while York was not." Isabella explained. She could already see the next question coming up. "It's not entirely uncommon, especially with the Bridges family to not induct more distant relations. They run one of the main banks on Avalon and Integrity is their watchword."
"A bank running with integrity as the main focus?" Katla raised an eyebrow.
"They aren't one of my family's allies but in public they seem to live up to it. As for behind closed doors..." She gave a shrug. "In any case, I felt the punishment was fair."
"and that's good enough for me. Have a good night Captain Ceije."
"You as well Commodore."
