Preparing for nightfall...

Did I say I only got potmetal daggers and exp out of that incident? Yeah, not entirely accurate, I also got three loincloths worth of soft leather and a corpse. I bet you can guess what I was planning to do with that corpse.
Day two in this new world and I'm already resorting to intelivorism, wow, that dark core was a hell of a ****.

I stash all my shit in my little alcove then head outside to gather some leaves and firewood. It's harder to do today, the little stand of trees near the cave is already picked clean of its best stuff from yesterday, and if I want to keep going with it, I'll have to gather from further and further away. To keep this from happening for now I cut down one of the smaller trees on the side close to the cave mouth and chop it up for firewood, being sure to clear it of birds-nests and such in advance, which also gets me a few birds to cook and eat. Oh, I'm still going to cook the goblin, but now it's not immediately going to be food, I'll smoke it for jerky.

Let me tell you what son, be glad that you are never going to have to try to eat goblin jerky, that's one of the things I miss the least about those early days.

Back in the cave I secreted the wood I'd gathered in various Inconspicuous places around the large gallery I'd been living in and made up a new fire too cook my meal, but before I got around to lighting it, I realized that I wasn't hungry for meat, I wanted vegetables and fruits! So, I built the fire anyway, and set it up to self-feed for an hour or two and headed off in search of veggies.

Now raiding a local farmer's fields was an option, but I wasn't that sanguine about my chances of doing so, and getting away with it. So, instead, I used a set of four suction cup tentacles to climb up through the big hole in the roof of the cavern system's second large gallery which let in that huge beam of blazing sunshine, or moonlight, above the Rocky-&-Sandy pool, and scout along the nice sparsely forested meadow up above. I was cautious, this kind of place is often pastureland for sheep, and it was in this case too, but right at the moment, no one was pastureing sheep in this area, and as I scouted about amidst the scattered birches, maples, and small hardy spruce trees, I found some patches of feral carrots, wild onions, and a type of strawberries that smelled a little bit like peaches and instead of being bright red were more deep pink in color. I would later learn that those were "Warp Berries", and somewhat dangerous to eat, but useful in an emergency. I gathered a few of all of these and headed back down into the caverns.

I cooked the carrots and the onions along with the birds after gutting them and stripping thier feathers, though it wasn't in that order. I'd already hung a few strips of the goblin jerky to dry in the smoke from the fire earlier, and when I got back I checked it. Not ready, and I was to discover that it took at least three days to properly smoke jerky. While the birds cooked I cut up the rest of the corpse and hung it up to dry inside the chimney as well. I ate till I was full, then wrapped up and set aside my leftovers for a cold breakfast.

It's night at this point, just past full dusk, but I'm not sleepy, so I resolved to go pay the prospector a visit, dose her again with a faint touch of aphrodisiacs for some pleasant dreams. I decline to take any of the daggers or loincloths, I don't want anyone else to know I am sapient, and hope that she'd been wise enough to keep her mouth shut.

It is actually closer from the cave to go to her house than the local hamlet, and I get there around 21:00 hours. Unlike the night before, I find her already asleep this time, her baby cuddled against her breast, while she snores away on her back in the middle of the bed. Calling that thing she is sleeping on a bed would actually be a bit of a misnomer, it's nothing more than some cloth put over a pile of straw, with some sheets and blankets on top. Blankets both mother and daughter are currently curled up under together. There's a faint trace of chill night wind blowing through the holes in the walls, but these two seem used to it and sleep undisturbed. I prep the dosing tentacle and prick the back of mommy's neck when she turns her head sideways to inject a few drops of aphrodisiacs. She winces for a second but it's an in/out operation over in less than two seconds, and she doesn't wake. At first her face seemed troubled, but then a lascivious grin spreads over it, and I congratulate myself on a job well done.
