What's next?
Precious and Hilda
Gabe
"Okay." Let go and let God, or um... Skye. "I choose Precious and Hilda for my last two members."
Precious nearly fainted, she got away with a stumble and held her hand to her heart. “Oh my god, I thought I was done for"
"Aaaaaaah!" Vera screamed, stomping her foot. "Fuck you Gabe!" She was red in the face, had her skirt bundled up in the air and was stomping on the ground like she was at war with the bugs. "You don care about no one but yer self! Jasmine was right about you!" She stomped over to the bus driver, no staff needed. Her accent was getting thicker all the time too.
So this is what it was like to be a god, moving all your pawns into place. Vera didn't even know that she was serving me on the other team.
Jasmine clapped me on the back, not smiling. She was in battle mode, but she didn't afford me a soft look through the eyes. "You're a leader."
I nodded. Hilda joined the rest of the team and I greeted her with a nod. "Okay guys, let's start thinking about a strategy."
Precious smiled. "You know if you squint at Lana, it looks like our old team is here."
Hilda smiled. "You'd have to squint pretty hard at all of us to think any of us are who we were."
"I'm fine with that." I looked at them all seriously. "I don't want to be who I was when I was alive. I didn't deserve the team I had then, and I sure as hell don't deserve the team I have now. But I'm going to do everything I can to get us out alive... and make one of your wishes come true." I put my hand into the circle.
Precious looked at my lonely hand, and then put her own tiny palm on top of mine. "There’s never a good time to earn back someone's trust." She repeated the line she'd just used on my, and I felt a ping of emotion swirl around me.
Lana looked at me carefully. "If you get the chance, you save my sister."
"I will."
"Then let's get to it." She put her hand in.
Hilda slapped her hand down. "I've been waiting three hundred years to play with you girls again! Let's get out there!"
"Yeeeeeeaaaaaah!" Jasmine cheered, slammed her hand down on top of the pile, and picked the other four of us up and off our feet. "We're coming for you Balthazar!"
