Chapter 23 by Leonine_Knight Leonine_Knight

Postscript / Rules Conversion

TL;DR For myriad reasons, I have decided to transport this campaign to a rules system that is a little crunchier.

I have greatly enjoyed my first forays into solo roleplaying and have really found my feet, so to speak. I started off with Monster Of The Week because it fit the vibe I want to go for and, since it's a Powered By The Apocalypse system, it was very easy to set up. At various stages, however, I began to chaff against it. Most notably, and something I actually mentioned very early on, despite promising that it could capture the feel of a show like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the playbooks system meant that all of my player characters felt largely interchangeable, especially in terms of their physical power. My other issue, on the complete other end, was how much of the game was left up to DM fiat.

I really want to feel like I'm playing a game rather than strictly writing a story. If I were simply writing a story, then I'd dispense with the rules-as-written entirely.

However, these are all things that could be worked through. Indeed, I'm still planning to put Powered By The Apocalypse as a system to use once I begin to post my branch of Lusty Magic Academy. The other big reason for the change is that I have been increasingly **** to play Chronicles of Darkness (which is my favourite RPG system/setting) solo. So, I set myself the rather arduous task of translating my current campaign and characters over to that system. On top of that, I've decided to change my approach to journaling. I think splitting off every individual scene was a mistake. Instead, going forward, I want to spilt every "episode" up into three or four chapters of uninterrupted prose, with a post-script going over the nuts and bolts. In addition, my prose style will likely transition to third-person omniscient to accommodate this change, despite how much I enjoy using third-person limited.

Addendum: I went back to third-person close perspective almost immediately.

There were a lot of kinks to work out and some of them are still giving me trouble but, generally speaking, I have arrived at a result that I'm happy with. I have eight sessions (not including these two) in the bag, all just waiting to receive a full prose write-up. As to how I'm handling sex, there are a few things I need to briefly go over. First, there's going to be a lot more of it as I realised that I had, kind of, got away from the fact that this is an erotic solo roleplay journal collection, not just a solo roleplay collection, and I'm not going to be segregating sex scenes into their own chapters. There's going to be a small amount of guy-on-guy action from time to time but I'll include a note at the top of relevant chapters. Stuff that will appear with large enough frequency that including a warning would get obnoxious, however: light breeding kink, monster fucking (more allusions and analogies than actual acts), lesbianism. The latter might seem strange since it hasn't come up yet but it'll become relatively common as the series continues and the cast expands.

Anyway, without further ado, if you're interested in seeing where this "story" goes, I should have a system page (in the World of Darkness section) for Hunter: The Vigil up shortly, followed by part one of episode three.
