Chapter 15
by frogogre1
How does the lizard father respond to the victory?
Poorly
Jollus woke up the next morning to the sight of four incubators instead of one, causing him to do a double take. It didn't take him long to find signs that pointed to the new incubators being worked in by the black scales being battle sisters. As they had several while defined muscles that pointed to being trained to use chainswords with certain exercises only the battle sisters used.
So now Jollus was left with the a very important question of where the black scales got three more battle sisters to turn into incubators and if anyone saw them, take the sisters. He turned to the black scales to ask but remembered they never spoke to him in his language; honestly, he wasn't sure they had the lungs for it; instead, they'd only ever nodded yes or no to any question he asked, just like the red scales.
Sadily, in this case, he needed a lot more details than just a simple nod, yes or no. So Jollus was left sitting there for a long while trying to figure out how to better communicate with the scales while staring at the new incubators, who, just like Agnissa before then, had their limbs forcibly bent at odd angles as well as scales grafted on to their skin.
He had his thoughts interrupted by his idol to the dead species of sentient lizards. "Do not worry, the scaled one, defend you from the three that wished to harm you no more, no less. What you should be concerned about is that you do not have a big enough nest for our purposes. Find one." The voice demanded of Jollus before its murky green glow caught of it, and the idol was inert once again.
Well, with his question answered by his idol, he turned to the scales and shouted so all the red and black scales would hear him. "Thank you." Jollus said, making sure to show the scales he appreciated them. They all looked surprised to be thanked for doing what they were made to do, but that nodded happy that the lizard father had appreciated what they had done.
Jollus went over to a desk next to his bed and opened it, pulling out a map and bringing it over to his dinner table and then unrolling it. He then began to look over the map, trying to find a good place to set up shop, as he could see what the idol meant as the cabin was already over capacity, as it is, without all the additional young from the next egg laying on the way. So they needed a bigger space to accommodate their increasing numbers.
He looked it over, not really finding anything, until he spotted a legendary place deep in the swamp. It was a giant tree that was three stories tall and about a story wide that was believed to be cursed. That was because anyone who had gotten near the thing had been attracted by a giant monster-out beast that hid in its branches. The place was perfect as it was hard to get to, and he could do the same set up there he had here with a cabin built into a tree, just on a much bigger scale.
Now usually he had written it off because of the creature, but his red scales had much better senses than his normal human senses. He figured if he could go up first in his canoe to draw it out as he got close to the tree. The red scales could get the scent of its blood and swarm it, bringing it down swiftly and safely.
So with what he figured was a good place to move into and a plan to move it's current resident, he provided to gather the red and black scales and tell him of his plans. He gathered them around and told them of the giant tree deep in the swamp and if it's protector. They were fine with his reasoning for moving there; it was a plan to risk himself to lure it out so that the red scales could jump it all at once; they disagreed with it quiet vehemently.
They made it very clear without words that they were not risking him. So instead, a couple of the black scales walked over to the map; the rest of the scales went back to what they were doing before, and so he spent the next hour explaining what the symbols and pictures on the map meant. Eventually the black scales sitting at the map got the gist of what the map was saying and proposed a different location. Jollus looked at it and thought about it for a while but eventually agreed, especially as the black scales seemed especially interested in what was already there.
Where are they planning to go?
