Chapter 16

Where are they planning to go?
To the nest of a shredded terror
The place the black scales that had been going over the map wanted to go to and essentially take over was the nest of a shredded terror. Which was a rare case when a shredded beard got overly large and they then began the process of shedding enough scales and tentacles to began growing large enough to be a subspecies known as the shredded terror, which instead of attacking people that were out of their boats like their smaller kin did, they just sunk whole barges that made their way through the swamp.
Now, because of the creatures mass, they couldn't nest at the bottom of the swamp like their kin, so instead they nested in the few caves to be found in the swamp. It seemed that the black scales wanted to take the cave for their growing family. Though if Jollus was being honest, the way they pointed at the map looked like they actually wanted the creature that lived in the cave more than the cave itself. Which seemed to be more of a bonus to them; he wasn't sure why that would be the case.
So Jollus began preparing to move on the shredded terror's nest, gathering the thirteen red scales and having them prepare to ambush the shredded terror as it came home. As Jollus plan was to move in to the creatures home, well, it was out hunting and waiying for it in ambush. He had the black scales remain behind as they had shown themselves to be builders to him so far, and so he would have them watch the incubators. Well, he and the red scales moved to ambush.
So with the plan made by Jollus, he and the red scales gathered their nets and fishing spears to move on their target. Jollus quickly moved into his canoe and United from the deck, making his way into the swamp while the red scales dove into the swamp's murky green water. They moved to be next to Jollus and his canoe, making sure to keep their bodies below the water so they wouldn't be seen by any human swamp dwellers that would cause them trouble by bringing sisters of battle into them.
So that was how they made their way through the swamp, keeping quiet and avoiding people only talking to fellow swamp people if they had to, making clear they were just and had to be on their way. So soon enough they found the flooded swamp cave where the shredded terror lived, and the red scales used their advanced tracking senses to tell that it left a while ago.
So now that it was confirmed to have left Jollus, the red scales quickly made their way in, and once they had reached the deep chamber where the shredded terror clearly slept, they began to set up their nets. So that they could tie up the creature before they lay into it with their fishing spears. Jollows was a bit nervous that the tat might not be enough for such a massive creature, but hopefully digesting its last kill will slow it down enough for them to use the element of surprise to devastating effect.
So with the nets set up, the ambush group got into their positions, waiting for their prey to come home. Jollus waited in his canoe, having lodged it into the cave, while trying his damnest to make it look like debree that had floated in while the red scales hanged from the ceiling by their tails wrapping around stalactites. The tension was high among the ambushers as they waited for their prey to come into theirs, as he was a dangerous beast, and even with all their advantages, it might not be enough.
Then it came: the massive shredded terror came in swimming through the long tunnel that led to the massive chamber they were all waiting in. It was a long fish, as twice as long as his canoe, with three times the bulk of any man. It had what seemed like hundreds of whip-like tentacles coming out of its face, all barbed, all of them swinging back and forth as if searching for something as the massive beast made its way to his nest in the middle of the central chamber.
Just as the creature had come out of the long tunnel entrance from the outside, the red scales let loose with their nets from above. The creature was covered in thirteen fish nets, and that barely held it as it struggled against the nets. The red scales, seeing that the nets wouldn't hold for long, immediately dropped from above, holding their fishing spear in front of them and hitting with the full **** of the drop.
They broke their spears deep into the shredded terror, but even then the creature did not die. Now badly wounded, the creature was enraged. It began lashing out through the gasps it had begun to create in the nets, and the red scales found themselves getting barbed tentacles whipped across them, sending them flying.
Though this ended up spelling the creatures doom, as now with a gap in the red scales encirclement, Jollus made his move. Rowing in his canoe and building up speed from the other side of the chamber, he rammed the beast and put his fishing spear deep into its forehead, causing it to let out a last sputter of breath before it finally died.
Jollus looked around, seeing the wounded, and immediately began tearing rags from his clothes to patch up their wounds. Then once he had seen to them as best he could, he then began to make his way to get the black scales, leaving the red scales to watch their new home and the wounded amongst themselves until he returned with the black scales to helpfully heal them with their help.
How goes the trip for Jollus?
