Chapter 90 by yamidamian

Which way-left, right, or straight?

Plowing straight ahead

None of us had the faintest idea where to go-even moments pressing our ears against doors didn't seem to show anything. Which, in its way, was informative-it told us whatever was in there probably wasn't more of those trap corridors. Those were pretty audible. So, in the interest of making things easier to remember if we need to run, we just went ahead. If we had to run, it was all a straight line, no worries about turning at the right place. As we all stepped through, we were more than a bit taken aback by what we saw-some more than others.

It was an absolutely massive room-honestly, I'm not sure it could actually physically fit within the dimensions without poking out into the open air. But since some of the spoilers the gods had given me told me that dungeons are essentially some monster ability, I'm more than willing to just assume weird space shenanigans. If i had to come up with a word for it, it would be 'lobby'. Like something you might see on the big hotels-except this didn't have any clear ways up to the second level, not even stairs. The only hit that might point to a way up was a very large circle of metal on the ground-clearly not a unified part of the floor. There were several short landings leading to doors at seemingly random placements around the cylindrical chamber-absolutely none of which were on the ground. Most identical to the ones we'd already gone through, but there was one exception-a massive, ornate thing at the very top that I could barely see from the bottom.

Piecing things together, i point at it and ask. "Looks like we're meant to screw around somewhere else in order to raise up something so we can get to the boss...but we have a pair of powerful fliers. Think we can shortcut this?" The dragon spoke for once to point out the minor problem with that instead of the more experienced divers. "Locked." Those I had expected to answer nodded before speaking to me like I was ignoring something obvious. "Goal is to kill us-so they're basically always designed so you've got to march through the whole thing to get through to the boss, give you the most chance to meet your end. We might be able to skip through some, but still have to slog for the key."

With no small amount of annoyance, we thus turn back and take a left to try and do it 'proper' in the search of the Boss key.

Any novel obstacles?
