Play Along - Suggest Your Place

I decided to play along. I said, "Oh, that's too bad. I was going to suggest that my place might be a better place than that corner."

Katie cocked her head to the side and said, "Why would those two go to your place to make out?"

I laughed and said, "Oh right, of course! That's dumb. If anyone was going to back to my place it would be us!"

The statement hung in the air, but Katie was quick to shoot it down. "Sorry, John, that's not me, though. Let's just stay here and chill out for a bit."

I think Katie expected me to be upset, but I nodded and said, "Sure, sounds great. You wanna get out of the bar area, though, since it's so crowded?"

Katie nodded and we found a common area with fewer people. We sat down on a couch and started learning more about one another. About 20 minutes into our conversation, Katie's roommate stumbled past and looked to be way too drunk for her own good. Katie jumped up and grabbed her roommate by the arm to stop her. Her roommate barely registered that anyone had touched her, so Katie quickly turned to me and said, "I'm so sorry, I think I need to get her home." Then she grabbed my hand, took a pen from her bag, and scribbled her phone number onto the back of my hand. Katie said, "Text or call me sometime this week. And by the way, I hope you're not upset I turned down going to your place."

I responded honestly, "No, not at all! It was a bold assumption on my part. No worries at all, really. Go take care of her."

Katie breathed a sigh of relief. "Good, I like talking to you but I'm not that kind of girl. Let's grab food tomorrow and continue this conversation."

"No problem, Katie." I gestured to my hand and said, "I'll definitely call you."

Katie walked out of the frat house, basically carrying her roommate. Looks like my birthday was going to end on a bittersweet note. No pretty girl to hook up with, but a pretty girl to get to know over the rest of the school year.
