Planet Cross Vampires
On Planet Earth vampires live in families, they have human relatives and protect those. For the most part they choose humans to transform into vampires, among those inside their family. Also, on our planet humans who are not from a vampire family, or raised as property of those families, are considered “wild”. Wild humans do not know vampires exist, they don’t know for sure if life exists outside our solar system.
I grew up as a wild human myself, until a exceptional circumstance give me the opportunity to became part of Nocturnal Society. I have decided to stay human in the vampiric family, now my chance to be turned into a vampire is over, and may never came back.
On Planet Cross vampires live separated from humans, they hunt in the night outside and turn into stone during the day. Like local fauna. They still have a bias in favour to their clans of origin, if the clan still exists, but vampires form their own packs.
They came during the night, usually by the last quarter of the night, to hunt humans and to trade goods. Also, vampires sell to human clans the maps with the location of ice-spider nests, sometimes.
There is a place, five times more distant into the desert than what any human could reach. In this place vampires turn humans into vampires. The process takes 6 days, like it does on Earth, and would be impossible anywhere else around here.
Sanctuary is a city-fortress build from the remaining parts of the space-ship that brough the first humans and vampires to this world.
Here in Sanctuary, The Society keeps the teleportation portal we used to reach this place. Myself, uncle Bob, an elder vampire adopted into our vampire family. More another half dozen vampires, two of them from Earth, like Bob and me.
After 14 days enduring this planet I could not feel better. Once the vampire fellow who carried me back entered the External Hall of Sanctuary, and said goodbye. Moments later Bob showed up, with his usual joviality. There is a bar here, and personal apartments with the benefit of hot showers. However, this place is still a city of vampires, and those places are hardly ever designed with human comfort in mind. It shows in small details.
I was anxious to start the travel back home. Leave this planet, give whatever fashion of report the Society system would demand. Anything, as fast as possible. So I could go back home. To finally sleep in my own bed again.
Because the only people who can be happy in a place like Merval Desert are those born and raised here.
