Plan of action

It was some time before June’s crying ebbed away when finally it had she stood up. “Thank you,” she said to the woman as she tried to cover her nakedness with her hands.

“Here,” the young man said, holding out a pair of aprons, “it’s the best I can do, I’m afraid.”

June took the two aprons and put them on, one over her front, one over her back. It covered most of her nudity. “Thanks,” she said, “either of you any good with healing magic?”

The woman shook her head, “Sorry, magic isn’t working properly. It’s messing up. Otherwise, I would have conjured you some clothes already.”

June nodded, “Good point, my teleport malfunctioned too, which was why I was down,” she paused as she looked towards the manhole, “there.”

“I’m Missy. I work in records at the school. And this young man is Abel,” the middle-aged woman said.

“I’ve met Abel. I believe he is, or was, in my potions glass,” she said. She remembered him because he was quiet and awkward. She took a moment to look at him and realised he had blood on his shoulder. “Are you ok?”

He looked to his shoulder, “I had a run-in with a Y’rt,” the wound hasn’t quite stopped bleeding, though trying to pull you out of the sewers, I’m sure, didn’t help.”

“A Y’rt, are you sure? I thought they were extinct?” June asked. The young man unbuttoned his shirt to show the wound on his shoulder, a distinctly shaped bite leaving a resemblance of the letter Y on his skin. “Holy shit, if we survive this, you are going to be so fucking famous.”

Missy laughed, “The question is, how are we going to survive this?”

“I have a theory,” Abel said, raising his hand, “but you are not going to like it.”

June laughed, “You know what I don’t like? People telling me I’m not going to like something. Spit it out. What’s your theory?”
