Phone call Part Two

Spencer's thumb hovered above the number for Abigail, his mother-in-law. He tried to think of what to say, and what she might say. Both her and Geoff had been incredibly supportive since their daughter's passing, but he couldn't quite pin down how they'd feel about such an unconventional situation. Realizing he'd have to make the call sooner or later, he decided on the former, pressing the number on his screen. He puts the phone to his ear, which rings for an uncomfortable few seconds.

"Spencer? How's it going?" Abigail answered.

"Good. I uhh, have something to tell you?"

"Oh. What is it?" The concern in Abigail's voice was unavoidable.

"You remember Jasmine, my friend from high school?"

"Oh, that lady who came over last time we stayed over at yours?"

"Yeah, that's her."

"She seems nice. What's going on with her?"

"Well, she and her partner want a baby and apparently I'm their choice for a father."

"Huh... They having trouble?"

"Jasmine's married to a woman."

"Oh, I didn't realize she was gay. I mean not that there's anything wrong with that... just a bit surprised."

"It's okay. I was too when I first heard."

"I'm guessing you've accepted?"

"Yeah..."

"So how's that going to work?"

"Natural methods."

"Well... fair enough I guess. Does Amy know?"

"Yeah we've talked about it."

"She okay with it?"

"Yeah."

"Well, I guess there's nothing wrong with making other people happy."

"Right."

"So how is Amy?"

"Yeah she's good. I think she's still asleep. Had a late night."

"Teenagers." Abigail sighed.

"Is Geoff there?"

"Fishing, if you can believe it?"

"Old men." Spencer sighed in jest.

After a chuckle, Abigail says "Well, anything else new?"

"Not really."

"Fair enough. Guess we'll have to come around sometime."

"That'd be great."

"Well, I guess I'll see you soon dear."

"Sure. See you."
