What are you going to do?
Persuade Grace to leave with them
"Grace, you should leave with your brother." You looked at her and shook your head.
"What? No... No! I'll stay and fight!" Grace looked surprised as she widened her eyes. She must have thought that you would agree with her.
"But this isn't your fight. You don't have to do this." You sighed.
"Melissa would-"
"Melissa became a police officer because she wanted to protect civilians like you! She gave her life because of it, and she wouldn't have wanted you to honor her by doing the same!" You couldn't help speaking louder when you interrupted her. You paused for a few seconds to calm yourself down before you continued. "You have a wonderful life, Grace, and you have a family who cares about you. Don't waste it." You gave her a faint smile.
Grace lowered her head and bit her lips hard. You saw her hands clenching into fists and trembling slightly. You didn't know what she was thinking, but you knew she took what you said to heart. She remained silent, but eventually she nodded, having accepted your advice.
"Thank you, Mr. Wilson." May looked more relieved when she turned to you.
"I'm doing this for Grace, not for you." You didn't expect a word of gratitude from a vampire. You didn't believe it to be sincere.
"Well, I don't think I can be that persuasive." She smiled.
"Oh, come on. You could just compel her to leave with you if you want." You understood vampires too well to know that they were totally capable of doing so.
"With that implication, Mr. Wilson, who do you think is the evil one here? She's my family, not my thrall." May restated her point of view while rolling her eyes at you. "But I'm afraid that I have nothing more to talk to you about, and I would like to ask you to leave." She stood up and reached out her hand casually, just like a human who wanted to say goodbye to her friend.
You got up from the chair, and hesitated for a moment before you shook hands with her. Her hand was cold and slender, but you could definitely feel the vampiric strength in it. You were not as afraid of her as you were when she first revealed what she was, but you still had a lingering fear as you pulled away as soon as possible.
"I don't know if I should say goodbye to you... to a vampire..." You said when you looked into her eyes. You couldn't believe that you actually wanted to know more about this not-so-evil vampire.
"Then don't. I know I don't really want to see you again." May just smiled elegantly, sat down, and continued her reading.
You left the bookshop. Standing in the quiet street alone, you felt like years had passed since you entered. You took a deep breath and finally felt relieved.
Fran wouldn't believe this, you thought as you walked away.
