“WOULD YOU TWO STOP PLAYING WITH THAT STUPID FUCKING TOY AND TALK LIKE NORMAL FUCKING PEOPLE?” Fenri snapped, her patience at its limit as she heard constant clicking noises from two ends of the bar. At one end sat Verdi, the alchemist listening to the strange sound box letting out random bursts of sound at specific intervals. In his left hand was a lever that when pushed, would let two pieces of metal touch and complete a circuit to release a pulse of radio waves. At the other end of the room Citrinas was eagerly listening as her receiver converted the waves to white noise as she jotted down each pulse and translated it before returning a message of her own.
“Why would I do that when the radio is so much better?” Citrinas asked, her words interspersed with a soft clicking as she transmitted another message to Verdi using her hands. Though she was wearing her usual flat expression, her transmitted message was oddly cheery as she asked him over the radio why Fenri wasn’t as excited about their creation. Verdi even had to stop and check his message to see if he was mistranslating her, her wording far more cheery than her usual self. It seemed when she didn’t have to look someone in the eye, she was quite the chatterbox.
“Why would you use that stupid thing when you have a mouth and we’re both RIGHT. FUCKING. HERE!” Fenri asked as Citrinas quickly sent a message asking Verdi if Fenri was feeling left out by not having her own radio. “I don’t want one of these fucking things. They’re a useless toy at best.” She said, instantly translating it mentally without needing to write it down, startling the pair at how quickly she learned new languages.
“- --- / .--. .. ... ... / -.-- --- ..- / --- ..-GYAH! YOU BITCH!” Verdi yelped, clutching his stump arm as his still twitching hand fell to the ground, new skin growing over the wound before it even hit the ground. Diving forward, Fenri touched his transmitter.
"Inventory." She said, storing it away in her pocket dimension as he caught his hand. He clicked his tongue as he reached down, grabbing his hand and placing it on his stump and slicing it with a small blade of ice to reopen the wound. “Fucking asshole. What would you do if I couldn’t reattach this?” He asked as Fenri inspected him, the gears in her head turning as she stared at his stump.
“Hey, if we cut your hand and put another severed limb on, would it attach? Also, how do you feel about having paws, a tail, and doggy ears?” She asked eagerly, her eyes surprisingly excited as Verdi silently felt a wave of disgust as he learned one of Fenri’s fetishes. Before he could tell her to go to hell, Citrinas trotted over and looked at him as though he were a high class pet.
“Actually, that’s a good point. Does his regeneration work like Evangeline’s where his body devours things it touches, or is it more like ours where it just heals to whatever is touching him?” She asked, suddenly interested in him as he shook his head.
“I’m already wearing the stupid collar, you’re not getting me to have dog ears and a tail!” He said, reaching to his neck where Fenri’s collar rested on him, their last bet leaving him stuck with the damnable thing. To his disbelief, Fenri looked panicked as she held her hands up non threateningly.
“Hear me out. I’m a VERY loving pet owner. In fact, I treated my dogs back home better than I treat most people.” She said quickly, hoping to sway him. “I promise to walk you everyday, give you lots of huggies, plenty of treats, and impregnate as many women as you want. Just think about it.” She said, doing her best to tempt him into fulfilling her pet fetish. Before he could go into why he would never be her pet, Belsach kicked the bar doors open with Varrick and Daria behind him. As they entered, Daria placed a hand on the table.
“Inventory.” She said as a strange metal box with an antennae sticking out of it appeared on the table. Attached to the top of the antennae was a metal dish about 1 foot in diameter while the base of the box had a small switch on the side. Placing her hand next to the box, she summoned her inventory again, summoning a wire cable covered in what appeared to be resin to insulate it.
“Champ! My boys built the-the… Thingy. Test it out will you?” Belsach said as Verdi inspected it with Citrinas, the pair mumbling about technical specifications. Copper wiring, magnets, and something about rotation speed, the right hand rule, and so forth were exchanged between the pair as they grabbed the cable and plugged one end into the strange box before plugging the other end into their receiver. Flicking the switch, the antennae came to life as it rotated before their very eyes, a soft whirring being heard from the box as they used their transmitter to test out the radar. As expected, they only received a signal when the dish was pointed to the transmitter, the dish easily blocking out neighboring radio waves as Citrinas and Verdi leapt up and raised their hands in celebration
“It works! You’re a genius!” The pair said to each other in sync, hugging each other tightly before releasing each other with a puzzled expression. “Wait, why am I the genius?” The two said, still in sync as Fenri sighed.
“Why don’t you two just kiss already?” She asked as one of the bar’s doors shot open, the scent of flowers and sexual fluids filling the bar. Everyone stopped and looked over to the source, finding themselves face to face with two of the most terrifying things in the city. Despite both of them enduring blows that would rend the land itself, both women looked worse for wear, both of them walking on shaky legs after their night with Verdi. As they reached the table, they inspected his radar, visibly interested in his work.
“Dear me, I leave you alone and you craft a cute little toy!” Evangeline said as Bell studied the radar.
“Fascinating sculpture. Not my tastes, but I respect you for doing something new.” She said, looking for the monster core powering it as Verdi leaned over to the rest of the group.
“Fuck, I forgot about them. Now what?” He cursed, suddenly remembering the previous night’s events. He’d fucked them so hard they remained **** for nearly 24 hours. He’d be proud if it wasn’t such terrible timing. To his relief, Belsach piped up, walking towards the pair and pointing to the exit.
“Out out out! Go terrorize someone else’s business you crazy fucking whores!” He said, shooing them away like cats as Evangeline made her way to Verdi. Grabbing him by the arms, she lifted him up, smothering him with her breasts while dragging him away.
“Of course! Just let me get a drink to go before I leave.” She said, her sizable chest muffling whatever comments Verdi had as he slowly suffocated.
“You should have let Bell have that line. Would've been funnier.” Fenri said as a red hot stake rammed into Evangeline’s foot, searing her skin as she fell face first into the ground. Mere seconds before she could land on Verdi, Bell grabbed him by the shirt and tore him away, holding him with one arm as he gasped for air.
“Are you okay?” She asked as he looked around in confusion.
“I saw my life flash before my eyes.” He said, gasping for air as he tried to compose himself. “There was so much sex.” He continued as Belsach let out a noise best described as a mouse being skinned as he looked at where Bell's stake had embedded itself, the red hot spike glowing faintly as it remained in Belsach's bar.
“MY BAR! YOU FUCKING PUNCHED A HOLE IN MY BAR YOU STUPID FUCKING WHORE!” He shouted, more fixated on the iron stake impaled to his bar than the person who was hit by the stake.
“I'll pay for it.” Bell said dismissively as she dusted Verdi off.
“Well, now that we have that cleared up, see you later.” Fenri said, dismissing the two women before they could cause more trouble. Rather than take a hint and just leave them be, both women remained in the bar much to Belsach’s growing disgust.
“Actually, I’d like to join your group temporarily.” Bell said as Evangeline took a step towards Verdi and grabbing his other hand.
“In that case, so do I. I don’t trust that leech to not suck you dry and turn your body into art.” She said as Varrick raised his hands non threateningly.
“No thank you. We're just here on vacation, but you're free to visit." He said quickly, doing his best to stay amicable to the pair of Great Terrors. Rather than take his dismissal with an iota of respect, Bell sighed and looked at Daria.
"Really? Varrick came to Olskroya to enjoy it?" She asked, as though the mere thought of Varrick being in the city was anathema to reason itself. Daria just looked away while coughing into her hand awkwardly, refusing to answer the question directly.
"We’re here for the tournament. Verdi’s just making toys to pass the time.” He said quickly as Evangeline smiled and squeezed Verdi’s hand even tighter. A crack was heard as several fingers snapped like twigs, the bone puncturing his skin like thorns as she drank in the vivid pain he felt. Verdi, on the other hand, didn't seem to notice, more interested in the conversation than the weird stinging pain in his hand.
“Very good try, but Verdi here is too smart, attractive, and talented to be here out of coincidence. I can tell, he’s a very important person.” She said, gently squeezing his hand harder while she spoke. His bones cracked and splintered to fragments as he bled in her grip, the angel continuing to crush his hand between her fingers His fingernails fell off one by one, only for entire fingers to fall away in meaty clumps, the angel’s grip easily capable of severing limbs at the slightest touch. Blood pooled at his feet, yet he didn’t seem to notice as he looked excitedly to Evangeline, glee in his eyes.
“Really? You think so!?” He said, more interested in the compliments than his liquefying hands. Citrinas grimaced, the sight far too gory for her eyes as blood splattered against the stone floor. As she looked closer, she could see Evangeline's skin slowly devouring him, only to be pushed back as his innate regeneration took effect, the pair once more fighting to consume the other..
“Verdi! Focus!” Varrick reminded, snapping the alchemist back to reality as he cleared his throat.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I am merely a humble alchemist here to sell my wares.” He said flatly as he looked down, only to find himself staring at a bloodied chunk of meat where his hands were. “Uh, AAAAAARGH!” He said, suddenly realizing he was in pain as Evangeline chuckled and stared at Varrick.
“Also, I know what you’re capable of healing, and eyes aren’t one of them. When I saw little Verdi’s eyes regenerate when you casted healing magic on him and how he resisted my magic, I knew he wasn’t just a normal alchemist.” Evangeline said as she let go of his hand, watching with interest as his bones set themselves back into place and his blood vessels squirmed back into their original locations, his erosarkic heritage making his blood vessels closer to tentacles than vascular tissue. In the blink of an eye, he recovered from her casual attack, his body ignoring context and healing every last injury she had inflicted. Bell seemed to take in the show as she committed every scene to memory, the grotesque regeneration a source of inspiration for her. Daria sighed as she rubbed at her eyes, visibly weary at dealing with the team’s alchemist as she looked to both Great Terrors.
“Screw it. You’re both too insane to be manipulated or controlled, and as much as I loathe to admit it, this weird little alchemist has your interest and by extension your loyalty for the short term. Listen up, here’s what is happening…” She said before going into Verdi’s life story, Tristiana’s revival, and their current plan. As she finished, Bell audibly gasped and pulled a stake and a chunk of marble from her inventory, quickly chiseling a twisted aberration of beast and women while Evangeline licked her lips at the description of Tristiana as a hybrid. She then looked to Verdi like a hawk eyeing its prey, his value growing exponentially upon realizing he was a one of a kind specimen for her collection. “So are you two interested?” Daria asked Evangeline extended her hand to the vampire lord.
“My dear, I would have followed Verdi here without hesitation. But now? How could I say no to the chance to reunite with Tristiana and Eren again?” Evangeline asked, her eyes glazing over as she reminisced to herself much to Citrinas’ growing fear. Evangeline was a wild card, no doubt, but from the way she was staring at Verdi, he was probably the top of her list. Bell, on the other hand, seemed to hesitate before answering, throwing wayward glances to Evangeline.
“As much as I hate the thought of working with that damnable vulture, I know for a fact that if I missed out on this opportunity, I’d regret it for a lifetime.” She added as Verdi raised his hand, a thought popping into his mind at that very moment. He had the idea back when Bell stole Fenri’s Blessing, but now that she was on their side and knew about his current situation, now was the perfect time to find out.
“Hey Bell, now that you're on our side, can I ask a question?” He asked, reaching into his pocket and fiddling with a coin as he tried to stifle his excitement, hoping that he would have another clue to his past. The only thing he knew was that he was from a world with technology more advanced than Ruyanei. Now he was going to see if he could find out what god was his patron.
“Of course. What would you like to know?” Bell asked as Evangeline snorted.
“Unless it’s about how to defile the dead, that tick is of no use to you.” She said as Verdi continued talking, ignoring the angel’s comment as he took a deep breath.
“So, I assume you can steal abilities by drinking people’s blood right?” He asked, thinking back to her use of Hunt during their fight. He remembered how she constantly licked Fenri's blood, so it didn't take a genius to see what her ability was.
“Yeah. I'm a vampire.” Bell answered awkwardly, as though she were saying the most obvious thing in the world. After a moment, she blushed and looked away, suddenly remembering Verdi’s mental state. “I’m so sorry, I forg-I didn’t realize Daria didn’t tell you what vampires could do.” She continued, doing her best to avoid digging herself into a deeper hole.
“He never asked.” Daria answered while shrugging as Verdi returned to the question he wanted to ask.
“Can you drink my blood and tell me what god I’m allied with?” He asked quickly as Bell frowned.
“If you have Warmth, aren’t you with the goddess of the Hearth?” Bell asked while instinctively holding her stomach where his seed remained. Between the holy aura that he emitted and the fact that nobody was pregnant, there was a good chance he had Warmth. Regardless, he had learned from his Humanity debacle that he should question everything he knew.
“I’m not sure to be honest. Might be an artifact giving me the power or might be residual power from when I was alive." Verdi admitted, still unsure what his capabilities were. "I just want confirmation on which god I was aligned with so I can search for my past.” He said as Bell shrugged, walking forward and grabbing him by the shoulder.
“Well, the worst that can happen is that we get no reaction. Stay still, this might sting a little.” She said with a shrug before looking at Evangeline. She smiled a toothy grin, her canines glistening underneath the light as she prepared to bite him. A loud crunch was heard as Evangeline grit her teeth to the point that they shattered in her mouth, blood pooling in her mouth as she was **** to watch her most hated rival bite her target of fixation. He felt slightly lightheaded as Bell drank from him, the vampire taking her time to drain him as he waited to lose what Blessings he did have. Just when he was ready to ask when she was going to steal his Blessings, it happened.
It was like waking up from a long dream, his mind focusing as he felt Bell drain away his Blessing. His divine patron never left his side. She was always watching. Waiting. Plotting. He hadn't just found a clue to his past, he had reclaimed it all.
He remembered everything.
And just as quickly as he received his lost memories
He wished to discard them once more.
