Patch Notes

(Matt's POV)

My next quest is a new haircut. Any decision I make is the right one because the reward says everyone will like it. It's time to take the plunge.

You bought the Femininity III perk for 3 points.

Looking in the mirror my hair grew longer and silky smooth. It looked perfect, I can do anything with it. I can get a pretty hair cut to match my pretty features. I look for something to wear and find my wardrobe to be too boyish. I need some cute clothes. It looks like it's going to be an expensive weekend. I really hope I can get some good donations from streaming this week.

At the store, I look at my self in the changing room mirror. I'm wearing the young girl staple of shorts and an oversized t-shirt. I can't help but think I'm pretty. Once I get my hair done no one will know I'm not a woman. I buy a couple more outfits for the new me and head to the salon.

I've never gotten my hair done as a woman, so I shyly ask the stylist for something that will help attract the boy I like. She lights up with a big smile and knows just what to do. I hope John likes it.

After the salon I spend some time relaxing by window shopping. I’m wandering from store to store when I receive another dinner related quest. That shouldn't be bad. What got me excited is the reward.

Reward: Delay Sandra’s move by a week.

Yes! This is what I wanted! More time and a chance to impress John with dinner. I hurry to the grocery store to get something new. I have a great idea for a creamy chicken dish I haven't tried yet.

I purchase the groceries and for some reason the bags feel heavier. Carrying them home is exhausting. I text John to see if he can help me bring the groceries up. Shortly, John comes down the steps to help me. He stops when he sees me.

"Wow, Matt, you look great!"

"Thank you! I wanted to try something different." I giggle at the compliment. "Can you help me with these groceries? I have something new I want to cook for you."

"No problem. I was just wondering what to do for dinner."

Here's my chance! I have to let him know he can count on me! "I've found a new love for cooking, and need someone to eat the food I make. You can let me take care of your meals now." He stopped climbing the stairs and looked at me for a bit without saying anything. Oh no! That came out a bit strong. I can feel my cheeks turn red, but somehow I know what he's feeling, it's approval.

"Th-thank you! I’d like to rely on you." He liked what I said! I try so hard not to bounce with joy.

We get the groceries back with no other conversation and I get started. John goes into his room and I hear the shower start. Cooking for someone is much nicer than cooking for myself. I hope he likes my new dish.

Once the food is almost done I set the table and go get John. His bathroom door is still closed. I open it a little to let him know dinner's ready. I get the perfect eyeful! He's standing there naked shaving and looks at me.

"Dinner's ready in 5."

"Mmph, okay." He stammers and sputters a bit, trying to cover up. I close the door and head back to the table. The food is done, so I move it over to the kitchen table. A couple of minutes later, John shows up, fully dressed.

"Bon Appetit!" I say and we dig in. I take a careful bite and watch John for his reaction. He doesn't notice me looking as his first bite quickly turns to a second, third, and fourth. He likes it!

He eventually pauses to tell me. "Matt, this is delicious. I didn't know you could cook like this."

I beam with pride. "Thank you. I'm learning new things about myself, too." I ponder for a moment before I continue. I need to cement my role around here as homemaker. "You've probably noticed that I've been doing more of the cooking and cleaning." He stiffened a bit, he's nervous. "I'm fine with it, in fact I like what I'm doing." That calmed him down. "I just thought it would be fair if we changed our rent split, since I'm out of a job and taking care of our home." Our home! That sounds so nice! "I've been buying the groceries, too. If you want to keep eating tasty meals, I'll need money for that."

"Hmmm." He got a look it his eye I'm not sure I like. "So, you're saying you'll grocery shop, cook, and clean for discounted rent? Like a housewife?" He said with a bit of a smile.

"Buh-buh-bhuh" I can't even reply. Why did he say that? I can feel my cheeks warm up. Not that I mind, but he didn't have to say that. I don't trust my mouth or looking straight at him. I can tell he's not being mean, but he doesn't have to tease me like this. I notice my hands are on my cheeks and I put them both in my lap. Firm, I will be firm. "If that's what you want to call it, you big dummy. I think you should say 'thank you' and be happy with this arrangement."

He looks a bit surprised by my response, embarrassed that I called out his ingratitude. It's his turn to blush. "You're right. I should thank you. I really do appreciate what you've been doing around here."

"Here's my full proposal." Now for the hard part. "I was thinking about how things will be, you know, when she. I mean when Sandra moves in." I'm not ready for that. "Maybe us guys could share a room, so she doesn't have to sleep on the couch. We can split rent 40% her 40% you and 20% me. I'll cook clean and buy groceries for everyone. I can move my streaming rig to the living room."

John didn't know what to say here. I'm glad I got that reward to delay Sandra's move in. Maybe I can delay it further. I'm sure we can work this out.

After a moment of thinking, John looks straight into my eyes. "That's a great plan. Thanks again for dinner."

I resist the urge to give him a big hug and instead gather the plates to clean up the kitchen.

John stands up to leave. "I've had a long day and I need to get up early tomorrow to work out. Good night, Matt."

"Good night, John." Work out? Since when did he work out? I can't say I hate it. Why does this give me the feeling that Sandra's not my real competition?

(Maria's POV)

*BEEppEEeP* *BEEP* *BEEP* My alarm wakes me from a deep sleep. That was a nice evening yesterday without doing chores.

I do my morning Yoga, it's free XP. Then I check my phone. That's odd, looks like Life Quest updated. Let's see what it says.

Class evolution available: Choose how to evolve your Yoga Mom class.

Not a lot of choices, but I definitely want to lean into the MILF side. If I have to have a Mom class without even having kids, I want to be desirable. I wonder what difference Gym Bunny makes. I'm enjoying my time at the gym, so let's go with that.

I head over to my get dressed and notice something immediately. Everything is different. I pull on my yoga pants and instead of the motherly MuMuMelon high waist pants I had yesterday, I have some scrunch back pants with the wide Name brand.

Also gone are the tank tops that go past my waist. They're replaced with off the shoulder crop tops, and sports bras. Speaking of sports bras, something is different there too. The old ones showed the curve of my breasts, but I wasn't big enough for cleavage. Now there's the hint of kiss where the girls meet. "Hello girls."

Looking in the mirror I understand the class evolution. It doesn't matter how you look at me. From the front or from the back, I look like I work out for attention. Considering my plan with John for today, that's not entirely wrong. He definitely noticed me the last time, when Rita was there. Now I know his eyes will be glued to me.

Those two kids might be good together, but Mommy’s got needs.

I can't take any chances. Let's see if my new class has any Perks. And.... perfect!

Now to make him some food and keep getting that sweet permanent quest XP. I wonder if workout snacks count for cooking someone a meal? I'll have to include some chicken and rice to be sure.

(John's POV)

I wake up early to meet Maria for exercise and see some patch notes on the Life Quest app.

Life Quest Balance Patch Notes:

Hello Quest Masters! We've made some updates to your favorite app to make things more interesting around here. Targets will have more agency in what direction they develop.

• [S] rank perks now provide the target with evolution options when certain criteria are met. Quest Master can set perk evolution criteria
• Classes will become eligible for evolution when certain criteria are met. Target will be able to select their class evolution.
• Character Editor changes will no longer be instant, but will be added to the list of available quest rewards. Character editor quests are optional and have their own slot. The cooldown timer starts once the quest is completed or rejected. As compensation, all Character Editor cooldowns have been reset.

Well, I haven't seen that before. I'm curious what people will pick. That takes some pressure off of me to decide their entire life for them. The Character Editor changes will take some getting used to but it will be fun to offer changes and see what sticks.

5 points! That's the most expensive thing I've seen in this app. I guess it makes sense. It's definitely a big change. Looks like I have a goal. I owe Matt to be the first. Rita's cute, but I just met her. Her being my girlfriend now can make this awkward. The sooner Matt is a girl, the sooner my life can start to make sense again.

"The sooner Matt is a girl"? That was a thought I never thought I would think. In order to help Matt I have to level, so let's make sure everyone has quests.

I'm not sure what else she wants. I'll need to try and find out next time I talk to her. I'll have to be careful asking my new girlfriend about her body insecurities... That's a problem for later me. Or! Better yet, maybe I can get Maria's help. After her gym quests.

Well, that’s unexpected. Seems like with her class evolution I have to be more specific in her quests.

Maria will receive the following quest: Flirt with someone at your gym.

• John joins you at the gym for another workout

I understand the third option now, but I can give that to her without using a reward. Perk it is.

The patch notes say the Character Editor quest has a different slot, so let's help Maria. If she wants to be a sexy gym bunny, let's see if she'll act like one.

Reward: Cup size increases by one.

This should be an exciting gym session.

Author's Note: I didn't plan for Matt to be tsundere, but it just came out when I was writing the scene. It's meant as an interplay from empathy. John's confident tease influenced him to respond with confidence.
