Overseer

Adam sat alone in his office. His terminal, flickering the familiar green light, displays the briefing from Vault Tec. He read it three times and still couldn't comprehend the reason behind these orders.

He, the only man, was placed in charge of 999 women.

"Did they even think for a moment how this is going to make me look?" He said outloud to the empty room. Even if he didn't know before hand, how many dwellers would actually believe that? How many lost their husbands, sons, brothers, fathers, only to have some random man in charge of them all? How many would be ok with that?

Adam contemplated resigning and placing someone else in charge when the door to his office opened.

"Overseer Surname." Adam's second in command, Amber Campbell, handed him a clipboard. "Here's the speech I prepared for you, sir."

"Thanks, Amber." Adam looked it over, but didn't really read it. His mind was already occupied. "They should've put you in charge. You're more experienced with a command position."

"Yes, I am." She said less than humbly. "But I'm thankful they didn't."

"Why is that?"

"I wouldn't want the responsibility to lead a budding society in the wake of global disaster with only a single male specimen to assure population control." Adam gave her a raised eyebrow. She returned to him a smile that looked deceptively charming. "I'm sure you're well qualified for it, sir." Her smile didn't match her words, but he was thankful to art least have such an honest person at his side.

"Alright. Let's get this over with." Adam sat down at his desk and reviewed the speech. He read it throughly and memorized it. It covered everything from Vault amenities, to long term plans, to the 'computer error' that lead to his predicament. It was well constructed. He contemplated his resignation a bit more seriously, but instead delivered the broadcast
