Out the door

Kelly hesitated in front of the door.

“W-wait. I’m not sure this is gonna work.”

Poppy froze, halfway to reaching to the door handle. She frowned, her hands on hips.

“Excuse me? What are you talking about? You’re gorgeous. If the boys from the fae circle by the water fountains saw you, you couldn’t beat them off with a stick.”

Kelly froze, trying not to dwell of the possibility he might have been wearing pants at this moment instead. He shook his head, turning away from her and pointing to his exposed shoulder blades.

“No, not that! What kind of fairy, as you say, doesn’t have wings? They’ll immediately know we’re lying.”

Poppy flew forward a bit, running a finger across his exposed skin and causing him to give a shiver.

“Nah, that’s easy. That jerk magician zapped you and made your wings vanish.”

Bring a hand up to her chin, Poppy grinned.

“I can brew you up a little nature potion later that might just get even a cute human girl like you flying.”

Kelly sighed, just resigning himself to endure her teasing.

Stepping out into the warm sun, Kelly couldn’t help but acknowledge how idyllic it was. Hidden safe in a beautiful garden? He could see why fae might consider it.

Poppy flew up a bit, putting two fingers in the corners of her mouth and whistling.

“Girls! Come over here, I’d love you to meet someone.”
