Chapter 4
by cphi
What's next?
The Wet Kitty.
You step into the establishment, taking in the rough plank walls and torch chandeliers that light the dim interior. Despite its appearance, the Kitty is well pitched and very little light from outside penetrates the log walls. A long wooden bar backed by kegs, casks and clay bottles dominates the left side of the room, except for two doors on either side of it.
The rest of the room is dominated by tables, mostly empty at this time of day, and the far wall boasts a fireplace which keeps the chill of early spring at bay. The climate on the continent is mild, but it is still a welcome warmth against the cold wind.
{if Time < 1000
}The door the left of the bar exudes the smell of stew, clearly leading to the kitchen. The door to its right has a sign over it that reads "Hall of Glory", and a second smaller sign reads, "paying customers only." There is a slate with the word "holes" in chalk, and an chalk "0" beneath that. This early in the day, the tavern is very quiet, with only one table occupied by a single patron and no one is sitting at the bar. {if Weekday = 0
}A silver haired elvish maiden is behind the bar, wiping down mugs. She smiles as you enter. You regard her with a pang of sadness: The elvish communities were almost totally wiped out during the War. The survivors are scattered refugees now, and prejudice has kept all but the most determined from finding a place among the protected cities. As you sit, you learn her name is Nadia. You keep your quest to yourself, and Nadia doesn't seem interested in your business. {else
}You take a seat at the bar, and are greeted by a dirty but pleasant man named Matthias. He's the owner of the Wet Kitty, inherited from his father who built it in the early days of the Corruption. You keep your quest to yourself, but Matthias seems to know your noble upbringing on sight. {endif

}A stringy-haired man with a cudgel and a hooked nose is sitting a stool in front of the door. He leers at you, and you learn his name is Bargen when a patron calls his name. {endif
}As you watch, a knock on the door is followed by the bouncer lifting the latch to allow a red faced human male to exit, stuffing the tails of his shirt into his breeches and calling for an ale.
