Chapter 12
by Wyrda
What is it?
A roaming band of orcs!
Your eyes finally find what you were looking for. A big, official notice was plastered in the middle, covering some other posters from doubtless annoyed individuals. It read; "Greetings citizens and outsiders. An orcish raiding party of about 20 individuals has set up camp a few miles east from the town. They come every night or so, burning, looting and killing our outskirts. I fear that we will not be able to repel them if they attack the town. If anyone can deal with them, please take this notice and present either the head of the chieftain or proof of his flight to the mayor. You will be rewarded with one hundred gold pieces. Signed, Mayor Krenvich." Below there was a large seal with a picture of a crow, it's wings outstretched and staring furiously at the viewer. Your eyes widened. 100 gold pieces?! That was more than you'd ever seen by a huge amount! You wondered what you'd be able to spend it on... Surely that would mean at least... 8 pints of ale! Yes, at least 8.
You nodded happily. This was the job for you. You didn't even stop to look around the market. That could come later. Right now, you're focused on one thing alone. Orcs. You exit the east gate this time, having entered from the west. You didn't want a repeat meeting with Matteau and his superior. The two guards pay you no heed. You're leaving the town, not entering. Hopefully they remember you, and that'll prevent another questioning.
As you start your walk, you start to think. How should you approach this? You're confident taking 1, 2 or 3 three orcs on at once, but 20...? Would this be too much? You think hard to yourself. You have confidence in your abilities. Someone else might call it arrogance.
You think to yourself. There are two ways you can approach this.
You could approach this diplomatically, and try and ask the orcs to leave, though you're not sure if that would work.
Or you could approach this violently. Perhaps you could lay an ambush, or you could confront them directly.
What do you choose?
