Chapter 13
by Wyrda
What do you choose?
Diplomatically
You know that you're a holy warrior, and with excellent sword skills. But even you know your limits. And 20 orcs is about that limit. You resolve to do this peacefully. And anyway, despite you knowing that orcs are usually savage and stupid, you know that they can be reasoned with... Sometimes. Hopefully they won't get into one of their trademark rages... And that would be a problem.
You set off east along the dirt road. Eventually, the track petered out into open, unclaimed grassland. This would be a problem... If there weren't signs of orc activity everywhere. You saw a burnt out home to your left. A dead horse laid nearby. A medium sized black shape laid in the grass. You didn't look long enough to discern what it was. You didn't want to know. Though deep down you knew what it truly was. Further onward into the grassland, you could spot large, heavy footprints in the grass, moving north. And this is the direction you followed. The path of destruction was obvious. There were burnt out areas of the grass, seemingly lit on fire for no reason other than for the orc's own amusement. Your heart slowly sank as you walked. Maybe resolving it peacefully was a bad idea...
Ignoring your doubts and moving on, eventually a crude settlement slowly came into view. It was a collection of tents. Nothing more. There were no walls, and their settlement sprawled out in a disorganised mass of furs, hides and crude cloth. The... "entrance", was nothing more than two large poles with a human skull on each. A few orcs were sat on the grass, but you weren't sure what they were doing.
However, that wouldn't matter. You were only 20 steps away before they saw you. Clearly they relaxed with their weapons, and with a chorus of their savage yelling, you were facing 4 large orcs staring at you, with axes at the ready. However, faced with a beautiful woman with no weapon drawn, but in full battle gear, the orc's savage faces showed confusion. "You. Human whore. What you doing here? Why no fight?!" The largest one spoke in stunted and halting common. The orcs, large savage creatures who could reach up to 7 foot tall, were built like brick shithouses. Their green bodies bulged with muscle. Their snouts were upturned, and faces ugly. Two tusks emerged from the corner of their mouths, and the biggest tusks were signs of a great orc, one who should rule!
You looked at them evenly, though a cold dagger of fear stabbed it's way into your heart. "Orcs... I am here on behalf of Barrowden-" You begin, but are quickly cut off.
"What human bitch? What 'Barrowden'?!" It demanded angrily. It was clear that not understanding things made him frustrated.
"The nearby town. Human place. Where they live." A spark of understanding flickered in the orc's dull brown eyes. "I want to speak to your chieftain. Bring me to him." The four orcs grunt to each other, and exchange a crude laugh.
"To service him human bitch? To suck him?" They ask with crude grins. You scowl and shake your head.
"To talk." You say. The 4 orcs exchange dim glances, before shrugging.
"Fine, human bitch. You will speak to him."
