Only one way to find out

After double-checking you were good to leave, you grabbed the books you needed for today that you hadn’t needed to pack yesterday, along with the extra items that you knew you would need and headed out of your bedroom. You saw that Sarah wasn’t in her room as you passed but the shower was running so you assumed she and Lucy had swapped out at some point. You went and checked where Mom was and found her in the kitchen. You wanted to spend some time giving her a proper goodbye but given the rush, you only gave her a kiss on the head before darting back towards the door, loudly shouting your goodbyes before you headed for the front door.

Neither Grace nor Emma were in sight as you quickly checked out of the main door, so you gave yourself a minute to put your trainers on before walking outside and locking the door behind you. With your goal in sight, you felt a lot calmer about the rest of your day and let yourself take a breather as you casually headed towards their door.

With you still cutting across the front yard instead of walking to the curb, you were at their door quite quickly even with your relaxed pace. You heard Grace’s voice from further in the house after you knocked, shouting that she wouldn’t be a minute before opening the door.

“Oh Hi Max, was expecting your mother and not you but come on in. I assume you're here for Emma?” she asked, welcoming you inside.

Grace was still wearing a workout outfit with a surprisingly low cut tank top and a pair of lycra shorts that both seemed a bit risky even by her standards. You were momentarily stunned by her outfit and once you regained your wits, Grace didn’t seem to mind your stare and just waited for you to answer.

“Err, yeah sure but I needed to see you as well. See the thing is I left my bag in your car last night after you dropped me off. You think I could go and grab it?” you asked, gesturing over your shoulder to the car.

“Oh you don’t need to grab it now, I’ll just give you a lift to school with Emma. Might as well while you're here” she replied, offering you a lift that would save you a very rushed walk.

“Are you sure? I’d appreciate it but I don’t wanna impede you if you wanted it to just be the two of you” you said, staying polite even with you running low on time.

“Of course I’m sure. You’re welcome to join us any time. Now, let me go and get sleeping beauty.” she answered, putting her hand on your arm to show her sincerity before cracking a joke and heading off towards the stairs.

You let yourself relax once again now that your lift to school had been sorted and watched as Grace climbed the stairs, her ass swaying a little more than last time. The change was minimal and you could have chalked it up to just imagining things if it weren’t for the smirk you saw on Grace’s face just before she turned out of sight. You kept getting surprised by the small changes in behaviour when your subjects levelled up and seeing her reaction quickly reminded you to go and check out Mom’s progress.

You hadn’t checked her stats since you had had the shower with her but the fact that no notifications had popped up when you had used one of Sarah’s actives to help wake her up didn’t fill you with much hope. While you were alone and had a chance to check, you loaded up the KDK and navigated to her profile, getting annoyed once you saw her figures.

11 Seconds. Just 11 seconds more and you could have levelled her up and revealed her next set of effects. Feeling annoyed at yourself wasn’t gonna solve any problems but as you sat down on the nearest sofa, you couldn’t help but feel irritated. You tapped your foot on the floor as you thought of all the ways you could have easily added those seconds on but you could do nothing about it in hindsight. With the time ticking by, you **** your foot to stop its tapping and took in a deep breath to try and calm yourself. Emma and Grace would be returning soon and giving off a bad mood was unlikely to win you any points if you continued moping around. For now, it didn’t seem like there were any positives but your mistake was too bad all things considered. You had time later on today to fix your error and in the worst-case scenario, you could always leave it until the family dinner later on in the night without any loss in time given the rest condition but it did mean that you wouldn’t get to find out her effects early.

The sound of footsteps walking down the stairs made you get up from where you were sat and both Emma and Grace were walking down the stairs together, Emma looking less than pleased as she followed her mother.

“I’d be careful if I were you Max, I think she woke up on the wrong side of the bed” Grace teased, giving Emma a kiss on the forehead before she went off to do something on her own, leaving you to fend for yourself.

“What's the matter?” you asked, getting closer to her and attempting to move a strand of hair from her face before she turned away from you.

“I had a bad dream last night” Emma answered, taking a quick look to see if Grace was still within earshot.

Ah shit. With everything that had happened with Sarah last night, you hadn’t even remembered to do your normal nighttime routine and you were out like a light as soon as your head hit the pillow.

“Sorry, really. I do have an excuse but it's probably not what you wanna hear” you said, apologising that it had slipped your mind.

Your excuse would probably get any other boyfriend thrown out the door in a heartbeat but given Emma’s new nature, you loaded up the KDK again and showed her the progress you had made with Sarah. Her eyes widened slightly but she only seemed to understand when you switched over to the ‘automatic sleep mode’ description and only then did she seem to put the pieces together.

“...You better tell me what happened” she replied, still sounding a little irked but the fact that she was looking at you when she talked to you was definitely a step in the right direction.

“Of course I will, it was one of the reasons I came round alongside a few others. You’ll probably wanna know about this as well” you answered, directing her attention back to your phone to show her the new updates to both of your mother’s, your Mom and Grace.

Seeing that Grace had levelled up since you had last shown her, made her face light up immediately and the smile she was showing you made it clear that you had won her over. She seemed to not want to reveal that she was as excited as she was and tried to keep her expression under control as you carried on smiling at her.

“I should keep you around all the time if you can fix her mood that quickly” Grace joked as she returned to where you and Emma were, getting an embarrassed shove from Emma that did little to move Grace from where she was stood.

“Mom! …A-Are you really planning on driving to school wearing just… that” Emma responded, trying to change the subject away from herself by bringing up her mother’s outfit, or more reasonably, her lack of an outfit.

“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?” Grace asked back, looking down at herself and running her hands down her body and doing an exaggerated pose for the two of you.

“B-because It's way too revealing” Emma curtly replied.

“...Well I think it's fine, what do you think Max? Is it too revealing?” Grace said, making the both of them turn towards you waiting for your opinion.
