On with the job.

That Friday, you receive a knock on the door just before it's time to head home. Michael, your boss, comes into the office and takes a seat at your desk. You get up and head to the wet bar located inside the closet, and pour two glasses of whiskey.

"Ahh, the perfect thing after a long week of work, " he says, taking a glass from your hand. "I got some news from the head office a while ago. I'm being promoted to general manager effective in two weeks."

"That's great news, Mike," you say, holding up your glass, "Cheers, and congratulations!"

The two of you clink your glasses and take a sip. Expensive stuff, although from recollection it was a gift from a client.

"So. how's the new assistant settling in?" he asks, leaning back in his chair.

"Exceeding all expectations," you reply, shutting down your computer.

"You might wonder why we organized for interviews so quickly after Lorraine retired," Michael continues, finishing off his glass in one gulp. "We thought you needed an assistant as soon as possible. Because I've got some more good news - head office wants you promoted to regional manager as my replacement. Congratulations, you're going to be running this office in a couple of weeks"

You can't quite believe what he's saying, but shake the hand he extends across the desk towards you.
