“We don’t want to give her a chance of abandoning merchandise. Strip her here. Everything goes,” the chief said.

“No, please,” Mary said. “At least bring me to a room.”

“Ma’am, please follow all instructions. Do not try to run or you will be charged with disobeying a lawful order from an officer, and you’ll probably rack up a much harsher punishment,” the officer said.

Mary gulped. She could see people gathering around pointing and talking to themselves.

Mary squirmed as the officers did a loose pat down.

The female officer then said. “Alright, please lift your foot one at a time. I’m going to remove your shoes.”

Mary obeyed taking her shoes off as the officer instructed. They removed her socks too opening up her toes and swabbing them. They let her set her feet down and then Mary felt a hand in her waistband reaching for the clasp on her pants.

“Alright, bottoms,” the officer said. “Please stay still. Keep your palms on the wall. Do not move.”
