Old Country Diner
Lamar looked up and down the street before sliding into the diner. Truth be told, he felt less welcome here than the person he was meeting. And the person he was meeting stuck out like a sore thumb.
Some of the guests gawked at the retired Black man having a bite to eat with the well-heeled country lawyer.
"You're kind of out of the way now," Douglas pointed out. Antoine chuckled.
"You're lucky," Antoine said. "Your ex-wife wanted us to move to Jamaica. Mighty nice down there. Mighty Black." Douglas shivered, imaging his ex-wife in a Jamaican flag bikini.
"Well, I guess I should count my lucky stars then," Douglas said, trying to effect a sour countenance. "So how is everything?"
"Good. Kids are good. They're happy with their new Daddy. Elizabeth is happy. I've got a lot of projects fixing up old man Castle's estate. You got the alimony?"
Douglas sighed, pulling out an envelope. Antoine grabbed it with a smile.
"Good white boy."
