Okay, Maybe Eddie Is Actually The Worst

"You want me to be nice, that's fine. I can be nice to you. But being nice is earned, not given. You want me to be nice then you need to start on your end of things. And frankly there, Eddie, you have hardly been what I'd call nice."

He opens his mouth, about to say something to defend himself no doubt, but I don't want to hear it.

"No, Eddie. You can't go ahead and fucking deny this. You've been a dick, dear friend of mine. Even before I turned your world upside down with my revelations you were a dick, complete and utter. An absolute prick of a person.

"Need I remind you that you put me down and called me names? Do I need to point out that you tried to make a move on me when every part of me from my body language to my fucking words explicitly told you that I wasn't into that? Remember in the library when I tried to talk to you about a fucking book and you bit my head off? Oh, I know. How about the fact that I was the only one to step up and catch you in the trust fall and you still decided that was some kind of insult to your manhood and masculinity?

"No, Eddie. You've not been a good person. As far as things go, in fact, you've been a pretty shit person. But in spite of all of that I'm still here."

"Kim made you be here," he snarls back, "Don't act like it's some selfless act."

"Fair," I agree, "But I'm still treating you nice, as far as things go. And you know that I am too and don't deny it. You're the first one to point out all the shit that girls can get away with. You're the one who constantly talks about how they can lie to get their way, to ruin reputations. And you know what? With you? I wouldn't need to lie at all.

"But I'm not. I've kept that all to myself. I haven't ruined anything."

"Doubt it," he narrows his eyes, "I bet you told her everything."

"Who?" I ask.

He doesn't need to say though and he doesn't say anyways. He turns away from me and he stares back at the group, but he doesn't need to say it for me to fill in the gaps.

Because I see him staring over at her, at Rachel. And I understand in an instant what has his back up right now.

"You really don't care about me," I say, the revelation coming to me slowly, "I mean you do and you're suspicious and you'd rather that I wasn't around, I'm pretty sure about that. But you're more afraid of the fact that I ruined whatever chances you think you have with Rachel by telling her that you tried to make a move on me. Aren't you?"

He doesn't deny it. I don't laugh, even if I really want to.

"Oh buddy," I say, "You really don't have the first clue what you're doing, do you?"

It slipped my mind for a while, but having her brought back into the conversation reminded me of the rather unexpected revelation from yesterday. At the college fair when we'd had to choose groups to join and Rachel had wound up convincing me to join the LARP group, the same one that I'd joined my first time around in this life.

But more important than a club that I'd never really even been to was the third wheel in our little party and specifically the interest that Rachel showed in that particular individual.

Rachel, the hottest girl in school, had a thing for little Eddie here.

I didn't see it. I didn't understand it. I could barely comprehend it, but yet I knew that trying to explain it Eddie would go even worse.
