Chapter 7

Will you call?

Of course you will, there's now

'Sure, what's his business number?' you ask, taking out your phone.

She tells you the number and you ring it, waiting patiently for an answer. Alice looks at you nervously. Helping her makes you feel a little better, and secretly you hope you'll find some dirt on that bastard Pascal. Maybe then she'll consider leaving him for you.

After a few beeps, finally someone picks up. You recognize Pascal's voice through the receiver immediately; 'Dunder-Mifflin, paper company. Can I help you?'

Making up a name on the spot, you say; 'Yes, my name is Rodney Prince, who am I speaking to please?'

'This is Pascal VanDerBilt, I will be your salesman for today. Are you interested in buying our paper products?'

'Yes, Mr. VanDerBilt, you could certainly say I'm interested,' you say casually. 'I am the CEO of a large company in the area, and I need to find a paper supplier. But I'm sure you can help me with that.'

'I certainly can, sir,' he tells you enthusiastically. 'Our rates are very reaso - '

You cut him off. ' I'm sorry, Mr. VanDerBilt, I don't like doing business over the phone. So impersonal. I'm sure you understand. Why don't I come meet you. Tomorrow morning perhaps?'

'That sounds excellent, sir,' he says. 'I'm free for a meeting at 10 o'clock in the morning. How does that sound? I'll have my assistant get some bagels for us.'

'Make it 9. That would be better for me.' Rodney Prince has taken on a character in your mind. An assertive, no-nonsense business mogul, who likes to control people. Maybe a very charismatic psychopath, like you've read a lot of CEO's statistically are.

'Uh.. yes, of course, Mr. Prince,' Pascal says, a little taken aback. 'Do you know where to find our office?'

'I'll have my guys look into that. See you tomorrow.'

You hang up the phone, and look at Alice triumphantly. That went very well, contrary to your expectations. He didn't suspect a thing, and you handled that perfectly. Alice seems to be equally impressed.

'Good job, Robbie!' she says. 'I guess all those prank calls we did together finally payed off!'

You smile at her. 'What? I just wanted to buy some paper. What's so impressive about that?'

Both of you laugh now, and the rest of the afternoon you have a very casual, friendly hang out. You smoke a couple more joints, and finally, when it becomes a little more dark, it's time to leave.

'Shall I walk you home?' you ask.

'That would be lovely,' she answers.

So, you grab her arm, and slowly you walk her to her place. On the way, you're constantly reminiscing about the old times, and telling each other how good it is to see each other again. When you finally reach her home, she kisses you on the cheek. You blush a little.

'Text me, okay?' she asks.

'Of course,' you answer.

She turns around and walks towards her front door. When she opens it, she turns around one more time, and smiles widely at you. Then she walks in, and she's gone. You stand there for a minute, reflecting on the events that just transpired.

What will you do with the rest of your evening?
