Chapter 11
by
FallenSaint
Is it that easy?
Of Course Not
You wait. And Wait. And Wait. Your mind constantly on Val and wondering if she is ok. She had mentioned that she was already wanted in Oscar's Den, so what if Lindleton had gotten word of her too? You wanted to rush into the town and find her, but knew that would be both stupid and suicidal. Besides, it was still too early for her to be back. You settle down with your back against a tree and wait for her to come back. You had closed your eyes just wanting to try and clear your mind, but you began to drift off.
Val ran as fast as she could, dodging around a cart and then jumping a barrel of some merchant's goods. A crossbow bolt flew past her head, missing her by a mere inch at best. She cursed her luck that she hadn't taken him into account. She was almost out of town, but he was closing him. The last row of houses was in view. All she had to do was- THUNK!
She stumbled as the next bold hit her squarely in the back. Her HP dropped into critical levels, but she wasn't done yet. Not by a long shot. The roofs on those houses was thatch, and would burn easy. Dipping a hand into her bag, she pulled out two bombs like the one she had used on the Kraken and tossed them at the roofs as she between two of the houses. They quickly exploded into a fiery inferno, closing the path behind her flames. She stumbled to the edge of the forest and dropped to her knees. Looking over her shoulder, she pulled a potion out of her bag and drank it. It didn't fill her HP completely, but it put her back in the green.
She hoped that the fire would buy her some time, but she was wrong. Like some avenging angel of ****, he calmly walked through the flames. Fire licked at his hardened leather boots and the black duster coat he wore. Atop his head was a hat that looked more fit for a western shooting game than a medieval RPG. In his left hand he held a small, single shot crossbow, in his right a bastard sword covered in runes. His rough, age-worn face smiled a cruel smile as he walked towards her. He wasn't even hurrying, damn him. He raised his crossbow again and fired.
The blasts and fire pulled you from your sleep. You could see the burning buildings in the distance and hurried to your feet. You weren't sure how, but you were sure that Val was involved somehow. The darkness of the forest gave way to the amber light of the fire that was starting to spread to other buildings. You could hear Heroes and NPC's screaming the distance, but that wasn't your concern. No, your concern was Val. You finally saw her on her knees with what looked like a small arrow coming out of her back. She was looking over her shoulder at what seemed to be the fire's point of origin. And a dark figure that was aiming a small crossbow at her. And fired.
You put on a burst of speed that you didn't realize you were capable of and take the hit for her. The bolt struck your thigh, but your scales deflected the attack and the bolt bounced off. A small bit of HP fell away but you were happy for the resistance your scales gave to pierce and slash damage. The odd man didn't lose his smile as he sized you up. Didn't even seem to care that you were a monster. He just put the crossbow into a sheath on his leg and readied his sword.
"Val, hate to be intrusive, but who is your friend?"
"Friend? Like hell! He's my overly possessive ex-partner and boyfriend! He was the one who taught me all my tricks in our last game but now he's a PK hunter and he's after me!"
Well.... Shit.
Do you stand a chance against this guy?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
